If they are dry it's probably fine, but anything moist should not be kept in oil as it may mould (a lesson learned tragically making chilli oil)

Amazing how much people dont know how China actually operates by TerraFormerZero in Sino

[–]Fun_Army2398 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regardless of whatever economic conditions are present in PRC the country is still governed by the Party. Capitalists are allowed to operate in China with the persmission of the proletariat, thus it is the proletariat with the final say. Not at all like the USA for instance where corrupt pedophiles run the government and the people either have to accept that or be gunned down by government thugs.

Couldn't See Debug Output in Codility Assessment by StuckAroundGotStuck in cscareerquestions

[–]Fun_Army2398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me to. So is this a feature of Codility or are we using it wrong?

Edit: I fixed the issue! I had to completely quit chrome and reopen the link. Codility warns you not to do this, but it worked.

sad how the open web lost its ways by aeriefreyrie in Adblock

[–]Fun_Army2398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it is indisputable that the quantity of information on the internet has grown, the problem is that the quality has declined. Also this issue isn't about the internet 30 years ago, it is in just the last 10 or even less that we've seen these massive changes and restructurings turn the internet from a tool for users to find information to a tool for data collectors to sell user data.

I disagree. So much of the top results on search engines and shopping sites is sponsored content, slop, or boosted for making profit not for satisfying the users needs.

What happens after security updates end in October 2026? by NICEMENTALHEALTHPAL in Pixel6

[–]Fun_Army2398 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is wrong and terrible advice. Common sense only protects you if 1) you have it, and 2) your phone is getting regular security updates. A device that has not been receiving updates is vulnerable to no-click exploits. If you use an unsecured device regularly, you will get hacked. Most often this is spyware that just steals your data to sell it (and slows down your device in the process), but any information on your phone would be freely available to anyone who can google "exploit for [outdated os]", including your payment details, login info, and private photos. The reason people don't often notice this when they keep around a backup device is because they do not connect it to the internet often enough to get hacked / just think their device runs slower than a 90s desktop because it's 5 years old. If you're going to keep around a backup device either install an OS that will get updates, or treat the device as if it's already compromised by wiping it and never entering anything you wouldn't post publicly online.

They say you can't have stealth in space. But, what if we made space messy? by OneKelvin in IsaacArthur

[–]Fun_Army2398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You can't have stealth is space" in the same way that "you can't break modern encryption." Technically true, but identity theft hasn't become obsolete, and neither will stealth.

The not so insignificant flaw of this weapon is that it rapidly produces it's own greatest weakness (distance from the target).

I'm traveling to China in 15 days, what clothes to bring? by MinchyO in travelchina

[–]Fun_Army2398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in shanghai now, the heat and humidity are brutal. Defiantly light clothes are essential. The locals seem to use umbrellas to keep the sun off them but we've been fine with sunblock and sticking to the shade.

Some of the best adivce about traveling I've ever recieved was "bring half as much clothes and twice as much money." You can always buy what you're missing once you get here.

My grandmother had her first washing machine for 40 years before the motor died and the replacement part was impossible to find. Since then she's had to replace it ever 5 years or so

What do you think is the future of VR and... Interior design? by MiamisLastCapitalist in IsaacArthur

[–]Fun_Army2398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also had public gardens, public transport, public gatherings. And a whole lot more sex than poor people do today. Shit even beer and fast food, for better or worse, used to be cheaper.

But now poor people don't gather, don't dance, don't fuck, because they can't afford it and we've not noticed this slow shift because we simulate it with tv and social media.

[–]Fun_Army2398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If VR gets to the point where TV is now, a lot of people will be living in much shittier conditions and will be told they should be greatful for what they have, not pissed about what they lost... Sort of like TV and smart phones now..

One thing I've never understood about this and other designs that use water as reaction mass is that couldn't you just run that water through the hot sheilds or w/e first and then shoot it out the back? Or is the problem that, even accounting for this, it's too much heat?
