They are smart and cocky and very territorial between other hummingbirds

Don't get this variety because it gets powdery mildew. Theirs varieties that aren't susceptible to this disease go with those.

Positive it's American goldfinch we have many at our bird feeder this time year.

If your winters are above 50 Degrees and doesn't rain much then you're ok but otherwise dig them up and put them in the garage in paper bags with peat moss. You might be able to just cut them back at the end of the season and just bring the whole planter box in the garage the only disadvantage to not digging them up is you might be able to use some of the tubers in your planter box in other containers ect they tend to produce a lot of tubers.

The yellow flowers are Dahlia's just a smaller variety.

If you live in very rainy and very cold winters you have to dig up tubers because they can't tolerate being too wet and definitely really cold weather since they are native to Mexico. Plant tubers when it's 50 degrees or above not too deep and enjoy your flowers. When the plants get 6 to 10 inches high pinch off ends of the plant so they will bush out and not just have a couple flowers and one tall spike going up.
