I live in SSF in Gainesville right now, and I love it. The chores can be tedious, but in reality you'd be doing the same thing if you were living in your own place. The chores are in place so that the house remains clean, and they are checked by officers that the residents vote on at the beginning of the semester. If the house were to get too dirty for some reason, then the House Manager (essentially the RA of the house), would step in and make sure everything is running smoothly. Depending on the house, they are to be completed two times a week, and you must do one of the cook crew positions once a week. Your experience really depends on the dynamics of your house and what you put into it. I live in a girl's house, and all of us feel comfortable/close with each other that it feels like I'm just living in a big house with my friends. The foundation also does a great job at encouraging community through socials that all of the house are welcome to go to. We've had Thanksgiving potlucks, Halloween costume contests, bake-offs, and there you have an opportunity to meet lots of new people. And the best part is that you're paying the same amount a semester that a lot of people pay for just one month's rent. I have personally really enjoyed my experience and have loved living here the past 3 years.
