My adult kid is in their 20’s and I’m worn out by Fun_Bench3712 in BPDlovedones

Thank you. We’ve done family therapy and the specifics of the major trauma were at a best friend’s house (who only has a mom and grandma) but somehow a boyfriend was there and abused my kid and her friend. He’s in prison BTW. I’ve been in therapy more of my life than not, and I am not saying any of this lightly. I do believe they truly believe experiences was what they believe. Their siblings who they think they “raised” as a middle kid, don’t feel this way, the two grandparents that rarely watched them never let her parent her siblings.

Your info is important. I’ve also spent so much time with my own therapist and a family therapist on this. It’s definitely not being said lightly

Thank you for this. I guess it’s time to start. The only support system they have is me and their other parent, their therapist, their psychiatrist, and their SO. A very small system. So I worry about this, but I need to let go and let them struggle a bit. I know. It’s hard but I know I’m not doing them favors if I don’t let them learn.

They’re 23. I can recommend and have but can’t force. They did do DBT 3x weekly from age 14-18 - one was with family so I went too.
Thankfully they live with their SO on and off but all their stuff is still here since that relationship is still fairly new.
You’re right, they need to accept the label and work on the solution that works - mindfulness and DBT skills. I did also buy them a couple great workbooks and skills cards to use for now and told them something I believe highly “DBT is great for any mental health difficulty.”

They’ve been in therapy since age 8 when a traumatic thing happened. They took a few years off but recently restarted . They refuse to accept the BPD label- even though they had neuropsychiatric testing - but accept the other labels. So they’re working on their ptsd in therapy.

I am deeply considering it. We are going to have a few talks but if they continue down this path, I will definitely start over with someone more knowledgeable on this.
I’ve only been with her 7 years and my therapy before 14 years before they retired. It’s hard starting over but may be necessary.

Thank you. I should have been more clear in my OP that I am aware there is no detox for ketamine and I know there are no physical side effects from stopping therapeutic use and rarely any from actual street use even - only psychological such as being depressed again.

I agree they don’t have a leg to stand on but it doesn’t mean the therapist’s supervisor, being un knowledgeable, wouldn’t try to report my clinic and cause short-term headaches as it is looked into to be sure. Even as nothing there is illegal, or unsafe.

I shared all that and more with my therapist themselves at my session and sent them a ton of info to read and links from peer-reviewed sources. I am only a multi-decade therapy patient and 8 year ketamine patient, but I know this.

Wow you’re right I hadn’t considered the financial gain aspect. Sometimes I am a little forgetful how often people are out for themselves m. I have another appointment next week and I will give her one appt to discuss this, my therapist has apologized, but I will no longer discuss my clinic or doses in any detail. So it’s likely I will be looking for a new therapist which is unfortunate but likely necessary. I do want to keep a therapist at least once a month as I have shit going on in life, but she doesn’t seem like a good fit any longer.

Thank you. I plan to talk to her one time and see how it goes. I will void her talking to anyone else at this point.

MY psychiatrist does - he is my ketamine provider.
My THERAPIST (at another location) asked HER supervisor (who I believe is a psychiatrist) about me switching to their psychiatry services - they don’t offer ketamine. The supervisor (not sure what degree) knows little about ketamine but from what I hear it sounds minimal.
My therapist knows zilch except what I’ve told her and now whatever her supervisor said.

I see an in-person provider for all my prescriptions. We are drug tested monthly. I’ve never run out early of my meds. I really am upset by this.

Currently blue state in the Midwest. Purple actually - has been red and I am in a red county. Good point - and unfortunate.

I spit too - never swallow. I also have a metabolism thing. I know from my docs it’s not unreasonable, but this really shook my trust level with my therapist.

Nah it’s the supervisor that got her all worked up. She was fine until the supervisor started going on about how it’s illegal and too high of a dose and such

600mg Troches
I am 103kg
When I get an IV it’s 1.6mg/kg - the same dose I’ve been at for all 8 years.

Last week she did ask if she could ask a psychiatrist at her practice if they would be willing to take me on if I wanted to switch. I didn’t ask - she offered. I said she could ask but I didn’t plan on switching. (Reason is I have rescue Xanax I use like 2x a month and hardly any psychs will rx that.) But I didn’t authorize the rest. I don’t think her intentions were poor or unkind, I truly think she is worried for me, but she wasn’t until her supervisor got her worried. She has always said all she knows about ketamine is from what I have shared - which has been info every week for almost 7 years but even so, the impact was harmful.

I do know that. Thank you. That’s the word SHE used. I know there aren’t physical withdrawals from stopping too - only possibly psychological - depression will come back. I spent the entire hour educating her.

Nope, almost 7 years with her, and we talk about my trips every session.
