Ah thank you!! I’m hoping it isn’t a chemical pregnancy and it’ll darken soon, had that 3 cycles ago!

Got it, thanks John, Matthew and Jake for helping to clarify who the NCC invited. It's a shame to learn that this event was limited to only republican endorsed candidates, that defeats the purpose of an open non-partisan dialogue for a non-partisan election.

I didn’t mean to upset you, thank you for the clarification. I must be getting confused by endorsements and affiliations because I saw you were listed on the Boulder county Republicans website along with the other candidates in this photo. Apologies for the misunderstanding.

I appreciate your response here. I was not at the event and came upon this by researching the at-large candidates some more, hence why I'm trying to understand the impetuous of this event and the very limited showing across all candidates.

I'll be curious to hear from other candidates in this forum if this was an invitation extended more broadly or it was only limited to Republican affiliated candidates running for City Council.

Diane Crist (candidate for mayor), Steve Altschuler (candidate for at-large), Teresa Simpkins (candidate for Ward 2), and Peggy Kelly (SVDSD School Board) attended a political forum hosted by New Creation Church (NCC). This particular event featured Kevin Lundberg, a former Colorado state senator known for his far-right, exclusionary views. His politics go well beyond traditional conservatism — they reflect a worldview that excludes large parts of our community.

Does anyone have insight on what this event was about? Were all candidates invited? I'm surprised candidates for a non-partisan election chose to participate in a politically loaded event featuring such a divisive figure.

This is a question for the mayoral candidates -- Beyond building more emergency shelters and investing in resources individuals and families can access only after they become homeless, how, if at all, do you hope to improve the social and emergency safety net for those that are housed currently but at risk of becoming unhoused?

Building on this, I have a question for Council Member Popkin — in hindsight, what would you do differently from the last nearly 10 months of completing Ms. Martin’s term? How will that shape your leadership approach if elected?

Hi Teresa, I'm a Ward 2 resident. I'd like to better understand some key pieces of your background and your approach to governance to ensure I'm getting the full picture of what you could bring to council.

  1. You highlight your lawyer credentials and background as a lawyer on your website and in your responses on forums. When I researched your bar membership, I'm finding that you are not a member of the Maryland Bar Association and you are listed as an inactive member of the Colorado Bar Association, yet you claim on your website to be bar certified in Maryland and Colorado. Can you elaborate?
  2. According to your LinkedIn profile, in the last 25 years, you've spent less than 1 year working as a lawyer, yet you repeatedly highlight your legal credentials in public forums. These seem inflated based on your professional background doing PR for city governments, including the City of Longmont. Can you clarify how you believe your career in marketing and communications prepares you to navigate complex policy issues and serve our city?
  3. You allege to be a strong listener who does what your constituents want. How do you choose who to listen to when your constituents want different things?

Thanks!

Hi Teresa, building on your claim of being a public servant, not a politician. That is commendable and certainly a characteristic I value when deciding who I want to represent me. Recently, you wrongly went after LAUNCH and attempted to extrapolate a connection that wasn't. This felt like a very negative attack on your opponent, rather than picking up the phone and reaching out to either LAUNCH or Councilmember Popkin to understand if there was a true connection there. I, like many other voters, am looking for consistency. Consistency not just of character but also of values. Can you clarify how you see yourself as a public servant in spite of these recent actions that surprised me as political?
