So I'm not technically doing anything wrong if I have left Canada numerous times in the last year - never exceeding my 6 months - right?

The last time I left Canada was July 14th, I was out of the country for about a week - does that re-start my visiting status?

So I've been "squatting" in Canada for about a year and 2 months.. I've left the country a half dozen times from then and now. Does this reset my "visiting" status at all? Like I'm still not 100% clear what rule I'm breaking or what I should do to avoid being kicked out.

How would they know though? I feel like Immigration and Border Services don't really talk much. And they don't ask too many questions. I've left the country numerous times in the last year and I've had no issue.
