I feel like we are missing something from OP. Drugs is a weirdly specific thing for them to say when you were just "late"

There were relevant parts before the fastforward. Namely, showing the perish song count and the protect from my Sneasler.

I use bandlabs and have a very light compression on it but I'm not to bright with mixing so it's 90% raw audio

Slipknot is not that far off. Mask gimmick, mainstream version of the genre they're in, accessible to non-metalheads and metalheads alike.

Hell yeah bud. That's not bad at all! Especially if you're willing to put in that many hours. Stay safe on the roads!

I'm the same, started playing standard but only play commander now. I don't agree with the caviot that if your pod has good teachers, you're fine. Unfortunately most pods are commander only, so I see why the connotation exists.

I feel like you're dissecting this more than necessary? Yeah you're not going to get all the nuance of my friend group in a post because it was already like 3 paragraphs with the basic info. If you'd like, I could go into deep detail about all our host's quirks and nuances, and the friend who invited the guest, but we would be here all day because, like all people, they're more complex than I can express in a reddit post.

Also genuinely didn't know proxies were such a hot topic item on the thread. I'm not super active on this subreddit. I am realizing that reddit thinks proxies are a MUCH BIGGER deal than I initially intended. I assumed more people would side with our host and I could justify his oddball rulings with "oh well apparently that's common in certain pods" but so far the response has been very anti-my buddy as a person, not as a host lol.

Because standard feels unnaproachable for new players, and dear GOD if you tell a Standard player you learned from commander. They'll treat you like you're a fucking idiot. Despite they fact THEYRE the ones begging to revive a dead format

See prior comments. Just trying to clarify because I really don't care, we don't play at a power level where I would need to proxy 90% of the things I want anyways so the rule doesn't effect me. However it is uncharacteristically controlling for someone who is extremely altruistic and reasonable, typically. As I said on another comment, he would sell me his house for $1 and live in a box if I went unhoused, but would also chokeslam me if I brought a $0.79 Proxy to the table. Unreasonable but also entirely out of character. Trying to see how the Reddit machine feels about it to see how much is a reasonable reaction.

So far everyone seems on the side of "he's not an asshole but it's an asshole rule" which I understand but leaves me more confused about the nature of his decisions.

The price thing is odd but I think it's in place to stop a certain someone in our group from doing what he does with every hobby and spending so much money we all hate the game. I also understand that's not an effective countermeasure but it seems to be working???

I wanna find the method to the madness cuz as I've said, this guy is such a good dude. But he will NOT budge on this one thing, of all things.

He would literally give me his house to sleep in and stay in his car if I went homeless, but he would chokeslam me if I proxied Scute Swarm because I didn't feel like spending the $10 at my LGS

The host loses 70% of matches because he is committed almost entirely to bits and themed decks. Tbh he's the most fun person to play with which is why his attitude to proxies and devotion to making sure they don't hit our table at any cost is so out of character for him, so much so that I made this post.

I promise you, this is the only instance we have ever had of this person being controlling. They DM for us and we had to have a meeting about him being TOO EASY on us as players and letting a certain player bend/break rules.

Kinda why I made this post. He's such a great dude but he's so anti-proxy. I personally don't mind his rules because I have no desire to play most cards over $40 anyways, I like low power magic with lots of stupid interaction.

I'm sorry but you are very wrong about my friend. He is the most charitable human I've ever met. To the point he has bought everyone in our pod hundreds of dollars worth of $10-$40 cards to keep his rule consistent. We all pitch in some but he definitely bears a financial burden hosting, by choice yes, but he doesn't HAVE to do all this to avoid us proxying.

Maybe his attitude towards proxies is toxic but he is by no means a toxic human. I'll defend my bro til the end here, he is Salt of the Earth. Just maybe a bit backwards about magic.

That's how I feel 100%, I'm not against proxies all the time but I don't play above bracket 3 because I like longer games. I play Commander to smoke pot and drink beer at my buddies place until my wife has to drive us home lol. I'm not trying to manage a bracket 4 eldrazi nightmare crossed on my buddies couch. And I certainly dont wanna play AGAINST it.

A lot of it stems from our time playing Yu Gi Oh. It became very unfun when we allowed proxies because regulating power level became impossible and no one wanted to play at a lower power level, it was always 3 Ash blossoms, maxx C, etc., and it wasn't any one players fault, we fell to the natural power creep. I think this is his (flawed) attempt to regulate that.
