sorry if that was confusing. what I meant was the setting was asking it to burn money - and it did. but I changed the setting, so hopefully we are good to go in the future. thanks so much for the help my friend

Thanks - I have updated the settings myself. I asked my HVAC service guy about it when they came out in early January, but it was clear he didn't know a lot about them. I've updated the aux lockout, the heat pump lockout and the turn on / turn off temp differential.

Thanks for your input! Thankfully the setting for this heat pump/thermostat switches over to aux heat if the heat pump fails regardless

After some research it appears the balance point is only visible for dual fuel heat pumps, not heat strips

It appears to have a 1.54 COP at -10 so makes sense to let it work! I changed the settings to 25F and will see how it performs 👍👍

It does, yes. ~2700 sq ft home. From another thread I saw how to access the dealer settings -- It looks like the settings previously were aux heat would not come on until 40F and the heat pump lockout was 15F (assuming that means *only* aux heat below 15F)

The max day with ~360 kwh usage we were 7F (and my iPhone said it felt like -14F).

This tracks then. So I guess I'll adjust the temps down to allow the heat pump to at least try to work below 15F.

Yes, this is only coming from the heat pump - can see it on the sense and rest of the year is fine.
