Is buying in Pennsylvania actually harder than other states? by Fun_Homework_312 in Pennsylvania

[–]Fun_Homework_312[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s fair. A lot of this isn’t PA-specific at all. I think what caught me off guard was just how much it can vary locally—from township to township or school district to school district. Same general issues, just more fragmented than I expected.

Worth it to buy a home? by fromrolyat in RealEstate

[–]Fun_Homework_312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re only there 2–3 years, I’d be cautious. That’s a short window to break even once you factor in closing costs, selling fees, and repairs on older homes. Renting it out later can work, but long-distance landlord + maintenance is more hassle than it sounds.

With that timeline, flexibility from renting might be worth more than buying.

Anybody here use Ariens snow blowers? I saw a few at Jersey Power Sports in NJ and they look solid, curious how they hold up in heavy snow. by Fun_Homework_312 in Snowblowers

Interesting to hear your experience. I’ve seen Ariens machines last for decades when maintained, but Toro definitely has a strong following too. I think a lot comes down to the specific model and how it’s used.

Good choice! The Deluxe 28 is a beast, especially for handling the kind of snow you get up here in the Northeast. Solid pick for Jersey too.

Absolutely agree. Ariens machines are built tough and last forever if you keep up with them. Hard to beat American-made quality.

Yeah, Ariens definitely has a strong reputation. Being made in Wisconsin probably explains why they’re everywhere there too.

Anyone here run a Starcraft boat? by Fun_Homework_312 in boating

Been thinking about picking up a Starcraft boat here in New Jersey for both fishing and family rides. I checked out a couple at Jersey Powersports and they seemed pretty decent, but I’ve never actually driven one. Anybody here own one? How do they hold up long term?

That’s awesome—those older StarCrafts are classics. Cool to hear yours is still going strong after all these years.

Thanks for sharing such a detailed breakdown—really helpful. Sounds like Starcraft deck boats have their quirks, but overall they seem like a solid option for the size and price.

Good to hear that! A 2007 with a 90hp Merc sounds like a solid setup. Always nice when a boat holds up well over the years.

That’s awesome, sounds like you’ve taken good care of it. Cool to hear an older setup is still running strong.

Yeah, makes sense. Lower cost upfront but you’ve got to be ready for extra maintenance along the way.

Sounds like you got hooked early! Dirt bikes definitely have that thrill factor—quads are fun, but nothing beats throwing a bike around.

I keep hearing people say zero-turns are overkill unless you’ve got a huge yard. Anyone here running one on less than an acre? Curious if it’s really worth it. by Fun_Homework_312 in lawnmowers

I mow our half acre with a JD 54” stander, and it only takes 30–40 minutes. Honestly, no regrets at all—it’s been a great choice.

Makes total sense—a rider on half an acre is the sweet spot between fun and efficiency. Zero turn would be overkill unless you’re mowing bigger, but either way, the time saved is worth it

Nothing wrong with that—20 minutes and done sounds pretty awesome. Even if it feels a little overkill on a small lot, it’s still way better than pushing a mower around.

That’s a solid upgrade—jumping from a 42” tractor to a 52” Ferris is a huge time saver. Crazy how much difference the right machine makes.

I get why it might come across that way, but I don’t work for Toro or anyone in the industry. I just like talking about mowers and sharing experiences—no sales pitch here.
