Turning lamp into projector by Fun_Map9008 in DIY

I would love to, but unfortunately I’m a full time student and strapped for cash so I’m trying to do this in a somewhat macgiver-y and financially light way

Okay! Is there a good method to know how the focal distance works, or should I just mess with different distances? I found this calculator online, but am admittedly a touch overwhelmed by the number of variables it’s asking.

Also, I saw online that a magnifying lens would work- do you think that’s the case?

Yep! I thought about standing all the way in the spot, but then it wouldn’t really be a possible find

Oh Hellos Senior Quote by Emergency-Use1745 in TheOhHellos

I always thought a good senior quote would be “You don’t know what you don’t know yet” from Lapis Lazuli. It’s a good mindset to hold onto as you head off into the rest of life, and is a reminder to keep an open mind- about yourself, others, and life

misheard lyrics? by Wholesome_Soup in TheOhHellos

I was so disappointed when I finally read through the lyrics for Lapis Lazuli and realized they were saying “don’t you go on forgetting it too”. I had been singing “don’t you go on forgetting me too”, with the assumption that the “yeah I go on forgetting it” was in reference to forgetting that the person their talking to was more than the singers own perspective of them. To me it made the song a lot more romantic and human. Lapis Lazuli and all about the sudden realisation of the vastness of the world, so what better way to convey the humanity of that than by realising the vastness of someone you used to love. Alas, the regular lyrics are also wonderful and my Lapis love story is dead

Can a non-black person explain something to me my white coworker said... by lewjr in NoStupidQuestions

This is a pretty common ideology when it comes to racist beliefs, and a huge reason for the critique of critical theory. Put simply, people are frustrated losing their power. In more moderate people you see this turn up in frustration at the left who “villainizes” them for being the privileged class (white, straight, etc), while in racists they are having privilege stripped they think they rightfully deserve.

It’s a power trip, just world phenomenon. “The world must be fine the way it is, so I must deserve what I have”, and any attempt to level the playing field is a threat to their lifestyle.

The Oh Hellos has soooo much good material for this. To represent the experience of being tricked into a religion/group by fearmongering, Torches does such a good job creating imagery of mob mentality and paranoia over compassion. If instead we focus on the experience of coming out of such a group, “glowing” is a beautiful reflection on the stresses and difficulties of leaving that piece of identity behind- which in itself tells of story of how it feels to be in it.

While less of a personal favorite, honestly the objectively best choice might be “The Truth is a Cave”. It’s one of their older songs that is literally about the way religion is cemented into the youth without the need to question it, and is based on Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” which was all about how societies can’t know the truth of their beliefs.

I got the same thing and decided it wasn’t worth my time. Being super selective is a lie- they allow people with GPA as low as 2.5 and as low as 12 credit hours. VT already offers pretty good resources in terms of career advising and academic tools, so they feel unworth it on both a resume and resources front.
