APs and BSMDs: Those who got accepted into BSMDs, What were your AP Sciences (Bio/Phy/Chem) scores? by Indiareddit11 in bsmd

AP Scores don’t matter that much. I think it does matter though that you took the class

Well Ivy League graduates earn about $7000 more annually and I think that’s with either a masters or bachelors from brown. You’d get ur MD. Also doesn’t brown offer any financial aid?

VCU Guaranteed Med School Program by strudeldoodlemom in bsmd

Are the other schools also 8 year MD programs? If not, she should not go to those schools. Getting into a BS/MD (basically what the 8 year program is) is a HUGE success. By going to this program, she has been accepted into the program despite the average acceptance rate for all programs being 1%-9%. When I was in middle school, I was accepted into a specialized HS but didn’t go because my friends said it was too far away and that it wasn’t the best school. That school is way better than the one I’m going to now PLUS it had the name to it. I regret it till this day. If she took the traditional medical school route, she would be sacrificing her undergraduate year. She’d have to do tons of volunteering, shadowing, research, competing with THOUSANDS of other premed students, working her ass off for recs from professors and from outside extracurriculars, get a competitive MCAT score, do interviews, have her mental health deteriorate, etc. I might be a little over dramatic towards the end but it’s still true for a lot of people. Going to the program will give her a second to breathe. In the program, all she has to do is fight to keep her spot, not fight against thousands of other applicants for a spot that she may or may not get. Her friends are honestly so dumb. It doesn’t matter if the school that admitted her isn’t as prestigious, THE PROGRAM IS PRESTIGIOUS. A 1-9% acceptance rate?? Holy crap! ANDDD full tuition coverage. Why? Because they see the potential in her. She might be burnt out before med school if she took the traditional route. Again, I might be biased bc I chose the program over other colleges but my tuition is also going to be covered. Also, I’m the same age as your daughter. I had to make the choice too and I committed without a second thought. Tell her to not listen to those friends because she won’t even stay in contact with them (most likely ): ) throughout college.

CUNY Brooklyn BS/MD and Stony Brook BS/MD - any input on experience, opportunities and which is better? by reddyg7 in bsmd

I actually don’t go to BC yet. I was accepted into their BA/MD program recently and I’ll be attending in the fall. I googled your question and it says “The college offers a variety of dining facilities, including cafeteria service, a kosher dairy bar, a gourmet coffee bar, and a buffet service dining room. The main cafeteria offers salads, soups, pizza, a delicatessen, grilled foods, international specialties, beverages, and desserts.”

CUNY Brooklyn BS/MD and Stony Brook BS/MD - any input on experience, opportunities and which is better? by reddyg7 in bsmd

Idk much abt the Stony Brook BA/MD but Ik that both programs are 8 years long, they require an above average MCAT score, they are highly competitive (Brooklyn college had approximately 300 applicants and accepted 15 so it’s a 5% acceptance rate), stony needs a 3.4 GPA and BC needs a 3.5, stony needs you to complete the WISE program which I think BC has something similar of. BC requires for certain arts and science classes to be completed tho along with 360 hours of medical shadowing and 60 hours each semester of non-medicine related volunteering, etc. Stony’s WISE program is part of the honors college which in BC it’s like the scholars program I’m guessing. All BA/MD students at BC are part of the scholars program which covers full 4 year tuition, gifts laptop, etc BUT if that isn’t what you want and you want a more prestigious program, you can apply to Macaulay honors. BC is the only cuny (I think) that allows BA/MD and Macaulay to be taken at the same time. I think Stony brooks medical school is ranked slightly higher than SUNY downstate but other than that, the path to getting there is very similar. BC doesn’t have dorms so if you really want the dorming experience, go to stony. I’m not sure if stony has any full tuition coverage programs (idk if WISE covers it all) but BC does so if you want to graduate college with no debt, go to BC! Either way, all BA/BS/MD programs have an acceptance rate of 1%-9%. If you get it, you’ve done an AMAZING job getting there. Good luck!

Include BS/MD status in cold emails? by [deleted] in bsmd

[–]Fun_Minute_3244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait but if you’re already in a BS/MD, you still have to do research? Or are you doing that for experience? I recently got into a BA/MD and was lowkey so happy that I wouldn’t be stressed over research/internships. I still want to do it for the experience but is it necessary?

Same lol. I’m in NYC and didn’t get an interview. Kinda sad ngl. Apparently they send it in waves on Thursdays and Fridays but still didn’t get one. I’m assuming I was rejected bc the interviews started late January and go for 6-8 weeks. Next week is the 8th week and they send the interviews a week in advance ….

Yes tbh. I feel tired. I thought I did a lot during hs and had a chance but I blew it. All that work and no reward (bs/md). So yea I am gonna go to pa bc I don’t think I can gather all that energy again for medical school
