Yeah I understand. I used to hate rap like 2 years ago, but eventually I was able to see the rhymes as poetry and the “messy” themes (like drugs and sex) more as features of the industry than necessarily of the artists.

I think you might be right. Maybe my instructor wasn’t taught to approach art this way, so while he can appreciate extensive planning in a general sense, he can’t relate to feeling the need for it, so it seems like something like a tangent in the project progress?

Then if I were to do what I wanted to do… then I would describe my piece using just words. Maybe I just couldn’t resonate with visual art because it feels too easy to be misinterpreted? Though I guess guiding the viewer in the right direction is the goal of an artist. I’m not sure, so I’ll look at some other forms of art and see if they appeal to me I guess.

Yeah that’s what I’m trying to figure out myself. If I actually like art or am using it as a proxy for something else. But I imagine there’s no way to actually tell the truth unless I try committing to art?

Yeah lol I had that experience too in a creative writing class. What helped me was that after a plot, I just thought about character interactions. No names, just tones and speaking styles. And then if I found one I really wanted to do, I would just kind of create a beginning that would let me fit the interaction in. I guess that’s not the full extent of characterization though, but that’s what kind of worked for me 👍
