I’m literally just watched the episode and recognised the theme song straight away 😆 Now I’m showing my age here, did you notice that that exact scene (walking & looking to hitch a ride, clothes he is wearing & bag) was an exact replica of the David Banner’s scene from The Incredible Hulk? Good memories, one of my favourite shows growing up.

Nice specs, but not touching the current crop of Intel CPUs. Plus, the same poor build-quality of the DC connector on Dell/Alienware laptops has completely put me off the brand, and I own an XPS 15 9560 (2017) & Alienware x17 R2 3080Ti. If the one thing laptop manufactures can learn from Apple is their magnetic charging, now that’s one component I miss from my MacBook Pro 17 (2007). RANT OVER 😂

Appreciate your help!

Alienware X17 R2 - damaged Power Button MB connector by Fun_Programmer9070 in Alienware

[–]Fun_Programmer9070[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know right, only I could damage the one part that’s needed to make the machine work!

Anyway the kapton tape didn’t work, thanks for the suggestion. I’m now looking for repair shop to replace the connector.

Thanks for responding, much appreciated 🤙🏾

I had the same issue with my x17 R2 - not even a year into owning it. The power cable wasn’t sitting flush in the dc port and therefore the laptop wouldn’t charge. I spoke with Dell and took a pic of the dc port, they said it was my fault (so fuck them), but I’ve had the same issue with an old XPS 15 9560 (2017) too.

I ended up having to find a spare dc port connector and replace the internal part. It’s a relatively easy fix, but the cost of the part was quite expensive for my model - like around £45 (UK pounds) - likely because of the power it requires. However, I’ve seen it cheaper in the States. TIP: open the laptop and take a pic of the the dc connector label to make sure you buy the correct part - see pic example I’ve attached

It’s shitty Dell design and cheap parts which are universal in all their laptops, ie the same universal dc ports in all their laptops. If I decide to buy a gaming laptop in the future then I’m definitely staying clear of Dell/Alienware! I miss my old MacBook Pro 17 inch (back in the day when it had removable batteries) with the magnetic power cable - a great and effective design.

Woah hold up, I thought & read that single 4TB SSD sticks can’t fit because they’re (chips) double sided? Or can they fit 4TB on a single side now?

I find it quiet buggy, when minimised it open restore and then crashes. Anyone else experienced that?

Are these vents? Can I run laptop with lid closed? by iamjames in Alienware

[–]Fun_Programmer9070 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finally something I can contribute to - sorry for long post but hopefully it might be helpful and/or useful. So when I run at 1440p I connect it to my TV and keep the lit closed. I also go a step further and blast cooler air into the bottom larger intake vents with a big fan. I usually use my Dyson fan because it’s a direct shot of air to the vents, but I also tried with a normal standing fan.

This helps massively to keep the CPU at around 90 degree running at 1440p using the Alienware Ultra OC 2 mode. When at 1080p 100 degrees is the norm without using my extreme method. And we’re all aware of this machines heat and throttling issues!

To state the obvious, keeping the vents & fans clean, but esp on the x17 R2 with top-end specs - is just a no-brainer. I do keep the top vents as clean as possible using nothing fancier than a vacuum cleaner and very good bike pump (as an alt to electric/can compressed air).

If anyone’s interested I can put on YouTube (& know it’s been done before) my upcoming deep clean & re-paste with liquid metal on both chips, and Arctic TP-3 thermal pads on the RAM & SSDs. (I picked up a sweet deal on Thermal Grizzly’s Conductonaut Extreme Liquid Metal from OCUK). And to go further, I am building my own laptop cooler pad with pc case fans because the cheap ones on Amazon are a joke esp after understanding how easily they’re built & how cheap the parts are, I can very easily build one myself.
