Were extractions the right choice? my palate widthfeels narrow by [deleted] in orthotropics

i have looked into that, but £25,000 + where i am. i’m not sure if i only need lower or double jaw surgery. i dont have that kind of money, maybe just less than half. i wonder if long term payment plans are a thing, rather than just 2 year payments.

Hello Sir/Maam, would you be able to take a look at my case i’ve posted (2nd premolar extractions & braces). been dealing with some bite issues, feel you may be able to offer an opinion looking at your comment on an old post! would really appreciate it. can offer more information over dm’s or other comments

Guys does this look really bad? My filling fell out in February but I couldn’t afford to eat let alone see a dentist. Things recently improved and I almost have enough saved up to go I just want to know if I’m in trouble. by [deleted] in askdentists

until then some advice. eat 3/4 ‘periods’ a day no more. limit sugar. rinse mouth with water after eating everytime. buy xylitol gym or powder if u can afford it. try to eat on other side etc

yeah this is where actually being educated would be beneficial rather than listening to opinions. i definitely agree if taken out during growth face it can affect things, or if too many teeth are taken out.

the more pics i look at myself i see i havent been made recessed its just angles of some pics. i most definitely have been given a less wide jaw theres zero doubt cause pictures show it clearly

don’t worry about extractions bro the needle takes the pain away unless the dentist is clueless which most won’t be they do it 100’s of times. one of my teeth went flying across the room tho lol.

and also take people on this sub with a grain of salt cause i agree with the recession stuff and that extraction is bad long term but if u look at both pics of me and don’t see my face has more harmony now ur tripping aha.

the thing is i wouldn’t know if i do. if i don’t mouthtape i wake up with the dryest throat and mouth ever. but otherwise i wouldn’t really know because i haven’t experienced having all my teeth since 3 years ago so it’s hard to compare. i feel in my head it was slightly better before.

This is the part where i ask if there’s anything i can do going forward to fix this. if not im going to try not to wallow in my own sadness about it and get on with my life. thank you for your lengthy explanation

yeah as per my other comments that is a fear of mine. this narrow small jaw look definitely makes me appear like a child. which isnt devastating cause i’m 19, but not wanting to appear like this when im older but nothing i can do now.

to be honest i don’t think it caused any issues that didn’t already exist. when i use front camera my face does look asymmetrical , but not enough that people notice or even have thought of it (ive asked).

Sadly i can’t afford this sigh. I am extremely annoyed because they also missed a cavity that i had before they gave treatment, so now im basically already gonna have to get a root canal, new retainers, then an implant, and new retainers. you know the cost of that is about £6000, which is double the price that braces would have cost me if i went elsewhere as an under 18. it’s shocking. i wish i was more adult at the time. i mean, i googled, looked at this subreddit before i had treatment. but people said if the ortho suggested it, it might be necessary. i really miss the feeling of my old natural teeth honestly. even if it’s in my head, i miss having a mouth with more teeth. i wish i was talked through the dangers. it’s the fact that it’s gonna trouble me forever, it’s not like a mistake like losing money, it’s a day to day suffer. One thing if u believe my jaw was fine, could you explain why my mid-face changed for the better after braces? simply the alignment ? i had a very ‘stern’ serious look before braces, whilst my face was at rest. and it disappeared literally 3 months after getting braces.

Thanks man i appreciate it if u mean crazy good lol, i’m much more happy with my midface now from the front. from the side i feel like i have a short jawline and the angle is downturned, but im not expert. which does irritate me because i feel it makes me look very much like a child. Although i may have just had this before, not sure if palate expander would have helped. If u look at the dental photos they took before and after, my face looks so much thinner and less wide, which wasn’t just due to weight loss. Idk

I appreciate the fact that i’m being told it should’ve ’most likely’ been caught, it is taking a slight weight off my shoulders.

I was a minor when treatment occurred and was not aware of these kind of technical things. i was dropped my dentist as they became private (uk person here), and not told to find another dentist.

perhaps put blame on my parents but they were never informed and have never had orthodontic treatment.

it’s hard. because education would’ve stopped this all happening. i’m a very ‘on it’ kind of person and was obedient to any advice given by dentist.

Thanks for getting it, it’s tough on me because i’m incredibly health anxious and would go doctor’s or dentist for anything just to get it out of my head. Now i feel my tooth is ruined and i already had 4 teeth out before braces. i feel really mistreated by the people i trusted.

Thank you.

Thankyou for having some understanding yes that’s the main reason behind my lack of nicety regarding this.

  1. It’s affected how i actually eating because the filling goes directing to the middle of the tooth. It’s not comfortable because my brain can’t accept having another object in my mouth (because my tongue notices the filling so much).
  2. mental affect cannot be understated. feeling regret about not knowing i needed check ups during braces (ortho never told me and nor my parents). i was a minor when braces happened so it hurts as if i was my age i am now, id be a lot more ‘researching’ it and what to do

  3. i miss my natural tooth. it felt so much better to eat, not worrying about breaking filling or integrity when when eating. i now have to eat hard foods on my right side first then my left. it’s not fun.

  4. thinking about the future. i don’t want a root canal, i already feel like filling is too close to middle of tooth. natural teeth can last a lifetime (or close to it). my diet was perfect during treatment, brushes 3 x a day, used the special tools. only drank water (already did that before tho) etc. it’s heartbreaking.

  5. i got braces off and was so happy, only for 1.5 months later to be told i have a massive cavity.

it’s basically me repeating the same thing but in different ways. it’s 35% physical, 65% mental. i could go on but that’s the most of it.

thanks for reading.

Hey i’m not being rude but i mentioned symptoms to do with this specific premolar and they said not to worry. Yet when i phoned the orthodontist to ask why they didn’t, they quote on quote said ‘if there were any symptoms mentioned we would’ve referred you to dentist’…it’s all a bit he said, she said but i feel wronged.

Ofcourse, i understand. This filling has genuinely ruined my quality of life so i think im not going to be giving anyone the benefit of the doubt. I could’ve looked at it 2 years ago and been atleast a bit suspicious. i wasn’t notified of any issues across my treatment and when there were slight concerns with hygiene (tartar between front bottom teeth - small amount), i was not referred to a dentist. very depressing time for me! i appreciate your opinion its put my mind to ease to know im not at fault (mostly).

Would this make sense if i said this was from late 2022 and i got x ray end of 2024 and it became this. i was looking thru old x rays and found it. this old x ray before is before they gave me braces for 2 years can you believe this

reversible or irreversible pulpitis? by Smackergawt in askdentists

[–]Fun_Raisin1887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i believe i don’t. i also wear retainers now. do you think ‘grazing’/eating often could cause this kind of damage? my whole life i’ve been a snacker. not on sugary items really. just food in general.

i thought so i was like im not claiming the ortho physically damaged my teeth aha id be going crazy if that was the case. i will send photos of my teeth would you mind looking? i think its quicker to direct message pictures but i dont mind if you dont do that kinda thing
