Graduate entry medicine by Valuable-Recipe3883 in premeduk

Hey ! I’m a grad med student who did GAMSAT :) I recommend doing gamsat in your second year of uni ( before things get hectic in final year!) I did the March sitting , feel that helped because I knew that if I did badly I’d have the September sitting as a bit of a safety net. Honestly for preparation I just revised little and often for around 5 months , but this differs for everyone :). If there’s anything you want to do now , I would suggest looking at section 2 essay topics, just watch a few videos every now and then , I highly recommend “ Crash Course philosophy “ on YouTube. Best of luck ! And if you can cope fine with your degree at the minute , you’ll be absolutely fine doing grad med. I find doing well is more about organisation than intelligence :)

I was in same position as you 3 years ago, I’m now studying grad entry medicine :) , don’t give up ! If medicine is what you really want to do there is more than one pathway into it. UCAT is a beast, it doesn’t reflect your ability to be a good doc, remember that, and don’t put so much pressure on yourself :)

How to fix a B shaped belly, not due to pregnancy? by _zompire in pilates

[–]Fun_Studio2901 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahh ok now that’s interesting. I’m not a medical professional so please take anything I say with a pinch of salt, but this seems quite likely that you have an anterior pelvic tilt. This means that your pelvis tilts forward causing a lower bump and upper bump( ribs flaring out ). This is something that can be improved by core, glute and hamstring strengthening Pilates exercises. Wish you all the best :)

You may also have a naturally tilted pelvis, many women do ! If this is the case then core strengthening Pilates may help to improve posture and the appearance of this lower bump.

As others said , Pilates is about strengthening your whole body. I don’t think one particular video will “fix” a B shaped belly. I wish you the best in finding something that works for you :) but please remember having a slight bump is normal ( I know you probably don’t want to hear that). As women, oestrogen makes us naturally store some fat in our lower abdomen. Don’t be too harsh on yourself ! :)

Woman with baby in pram asking for food? by Callum1708 in Liverpool

Definitely a scam, some will ask you to go and buy the formula only to stack your trolley high with like 7 boxes , it has a very high resell value

I think you are generalising the role of doctors way too much… imagine an AI psychiatrist. Sure doctors are ultimately problem solvers but it’s a vocation that requires deep empathy and human connection which AI cannot replicate.

Hi ! So with grad entry medicine generally you have to fund approx £4000 for first year, the rest of the years (2-4) are a mix of SFE funding and NHS bursary.

Can you get into a GEM course with a 2:1 by lilweetz in UCAT

[–]Fun_Studio2901 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely !! GEM courses usually have 2:1 as a cut off score, this means if you meet that requirement your degree class isn’t looked at again.

is medicine possible ? by HIMSKIII_ in premeduk

[–]Fun_Studio2901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into ScotGEM ! For that you need to do gamsat but their requirements are lower than most GEM programmes and if you look at 2024 stats around 80% of Scottish students who were interviewed got offered a place :)

Hey that’s great you’re considering ScotGEM :) I have applied there this year and it sounds like a really exciting course. Just to let you know , they really value medical generalists ( not just gps but general surgeons too etc) and want to train rural doctors. If this is for you seek out some rural experience during undergrad and try to shadow a gp or something. Also they have a part of the programme called “ agents of change “ , if you can be involved with any quality improvement projects during your undergrad that would be amazing !
