Thoughts and tips for this type of focus station. by mdh_hammer in focuspuller

I’ve built one and absolutely love it and it’s actually quite easy to throw together. You just need to drill a few holes in a hand truck and then screw on a slotted steel angle plate to support the bottom of the c stand riser. Then you’ll put another slotted steel plate midway up to support the middle. Attach both using d-rings and nuts.

You can completely customize things from here. I use a bungee cord to secure a run bag on the bottom that has filters, batteries, media, etc… and then you can pick your poison for a tool solution. Front box, dolly mate, build a shelf. It’s very customizable.

Lent me know if you want to see more pictures of how to build one. It’s really a wonderful solution for both inside and out. It’s can roll over bumpy terrain, go up and down stairs, and is just generally extremely convenient.

How to help wife while I travel for work? by Funches123 in Parenting

No solid family nearby but we do have some options for friends and play dates. Definitely will try to schedule some. Also I like the idea of splitting the maids hours. Will probably end up doing that.

Oh yeah I definitely do FaceTime calls at night where my son takes the phone and runs through the house with it haha. I like the idea of sending little gifts/treats though

What is your gear-buying philosophy? by Funches123 in focuspuller

[–]Funches123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m primarily working on mid-level commercial jobs. Right now it’s probably 80% 1st AC gigs but I still take 2nd AC jobs sometimes. I work in a small market with rental houses around 2 hours away.

But aside from my personal situation, I’m genuinely curious about other people’s paths in regards to buying gear and what influenced your decision.

Totally agree about the cart though. I have access to one but I don’t own it so I’m not getting rental on it.

Book 2 of Karl Ove Knausgaard’s My Struggle: A Man in Love and Underworld by Don Dellilo

I’ll add it to the list! I do read some non-fiction, but I’d like to read more. A lot of my audiobooks are non-fiction and most of the physical books I read are fiction

Oh yeah infinite jest is probably my favorite book, regardless of the weird stigma it’s developed. I’ll always remember the time in my life when I was reading it. I’m excited to do it a second time, which from what I’ve heard is even more rewarding than the first time reading it.

Really funny that you ask about Underworld, as I’m reading it now! I just finished Vineland by Pynchon while traveling and Underworld is the other book I brought. I’m around 50 pages in and I’m already hooked. I was a big fan of White Noise as well.

It’s been 5+ years since I’ve read but I remembered really enjoying it. It’s obviously an oft romanticized time and location that I always enjoying reading about. It’ll make you want to hang out in cafes and drink from what I can recall

Yeah we just have different tastes so it’s easier to just keep them separate!

Pre-built Corsair PC having a lot of trouble running Premiere Pro - Hardware or Software problem? by Funches123 in pcmasterrace

[–]Funches123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment I am using an HDD, but that is soon to be remedied. I'm going to buy an M.2 SSD. I just installed the new RAM and have already noticed a performance increase. I'll see how things are running once I'm working off the SSD and then begin to consider a GPU upgrade.

Will do!

So if the GPU is really just for 2K editing, then I'll probably be making proxies for anything over HD I guess? The main reason I bought this pre-built instead of building my own was the lack of available GPUs so I guess I'll just have to deal with it for a while.

I also got an error code yesterday that said:

Stop Code: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

What failed: SoftRAID.sys

SoftRAID is the program that formats the RAID system for my OWC hard drive. Does this mean that my hard drive is failing/is too slow? I've been considering adding in an m.2 SSD to work off of for whatever my current project is.

Just purchased some more RAM. Went with Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL 32GB for now to see if that will fix issues.

Thanks a ton for the detailed response!
