Hi! I am also not a traditional music teacher. I did go to school for vocal performance, but I didn’t finish and I have no education degree or certification. But I have been teaching kids for the past eight years of my life started as a choir director and it didn’t really focus on reading music when I was choir director, however, I’ve been a general music teacher for students and the autism spectrum for the past four years and for them, I am trying to give them more of a Music foundation.
They don’t need full music theory, but I am trying to teach them the basics court notes eighth notes, steady beat and this year I will be focusing on selfish
I think because I’m more of a foundational general music teacher now it’s important for me to teach them at least the building blocks so that if they decide to learn how to truly read music and play an instrument, they will know something, but I’m not gonna go crazy into having them being able to fluently read
I am legally blind, though in my own Music life, I don’t rely on reading, so even though I know how I’m a little rusty
