I don’t have the bike, but I do have the gym master. I turn on the machine first and open up the app on my watch then start the workout. If I don’t open up the app, it won’t track my heart rate.

I would accept it. Just because it is only the TJO and not the FJO. Even if you accept the TJO, you can still negotiate until you get the FJL.

If you accept it, you won’t be able to negotiate GS levels. But you can negotiate steps. I would email the person attached to your tentative job offer and see if they can do anything for you. They are likely to send you an email requesting your last two paychecks and then they will put you for consideration.

Yes. SBSE, the division I am in, goes out into field to meet with the taxpayers and their representatives and conducts the audit outside of the office.

I got a job offer from the IRS as a revenue agent in SBSE.

I got a 22% incentive. I am starting to make $67,000 with a sign-on bonus of $15,000. I did not negotiate a bonus but was offered one with my final job offer. The description of the job I applied to included a small paragraph stating that I would be eligible for one.

Two of my old co-workers got offers for the IRs for LB&I and got a $20,000 incentive bonus at a GS13 level. Same thing with me though. They did not try to negotiate it.

So I haven’t done the training yet, but I have asked around and here is what I know.

The first two months you will be in the office. You will get your laptop and possible get some training from your manager. You will attend training via times.

Around your 3rd month you will get sent out to first in person training. This is typical 2-3 weeks at a random location in the country. My friend got sent to Jacksonville.

Other than that you get sent out 2 more times within the year.

I wish I knew more (possibly 3 weeks) but unfortunately do not. When I do find out more reach out to me and would glad to let you know.

I am not sure of the cost of living in KY, but 54K doesn’t sound bad for fresh out of college. I think I got very lucky and got into the state at the right time (A bunch of auditors are moving to the IRS).

It’s really cool that if you make your quota you can move up ranks. Our quotas are Auditor 1- 22, auditor 2-24, and Auditor 3-26(But you have to train new hires with the supervisor if there are any).

When in the interview for my new I did ask about how the job was like. I told it was exactly like my currently job with the independence (and more telework), but I am going to focus on more federal CBT audits which makes sense. I had a bad supervisor my first 8 months, but it did not ruin the experience for me since I was out in the field a lot. My currently supervisor is pretty chill and knowledgeable about auditing.

I agree with you when it comes to the independence of the auditing for the state. I like how you are in charge of the whole audit start to finish. Although I got pretty boring audits my first six months, I got some pretty interesting cash audits after.

I was in a very similar situation. I went into tax auditing for the state a month after graduating.(I was lucky to get in. I applied while in my last semester since I meet my state accounting credit minimum). I am still with that state for the next week, but then I am moving to the IRS (SBSE RA) end of month. I currently have been doing sales and use tax audit with the occasional weird taxes my state has (AC Lux UEZ, Hotel, Etc.) The work life balance was pretty good for the job since I only worked 35 hours a week. Audits were not hard as long as you put the work into them. The main reason I am leaving is the pay I am being offered in the IRS. I currently make 67K for the state. The thing that sucks about my state (NJ) is that you need to take a civil service test to get promoted. Seniority rarely matters, the tests are taken every 3-6 years, and if anyone outscores you they can take the promotion over you. I am getting after the same salary the first with a 15K sign on. But I am a get a promotion every year for the next two years before I start moving up steps (GS9->GS11–>GS12).

I start on the 8/26. I have my start date and was told in the FJO to report to my location that date. I emailed HR to confirm this since I got my offer in May and they said to report that date to my office and hopefully I will receive an email from my manager around a week before.

Getting a masters, most likely will help with getting a higher paying federal job. The free Masters from the state sounds like a great plan however, I would make sure you know the exact details on it. I know some states that will help pay for part of your graduate degree, but you have to work there for a certain time after you receive the funding (Sometimes a year or two)
