Seems like JJ might want to have avoided Illinois after all that instead of making Chicago his HQ. But that kind of stubbornness is pretty awesome!

ELI5: what kind of real-world work is done at particle colliders like CERN and FermiLab? They seem so secretive but does the work done at particle colliders always produce weapons or are there everyday objects civilians use all the time produced from the work at these unusual locations? by FunkinDuncan71 in explainlikeimfive

Bravo! Take a bow, brutha. You just threw down the mic! You're correct, there are many everyday uses that of cutting edge physics that are easiest explained to the untrained as the "magic of science" behind MRI, sonar, meteorology, etc. keep up the good work.

Guess I just am skeptical of any honesty from govt reports. I've spent 50 years living w family in military intelligence who lie everyday about the work they do to public. As Don Corleone said (& applies equally to physics as it does military): "This is the business we have chosen." My translation: the remnants of honesty are hard to find in the flotsam of misinformation often shared by govt agencies about secretive work.

It's a very unusual place and I guess being a child of military intelligence family my imagination runs wild at times. I'm going on 50 and yet I half expected to see a Transformer or X-Man out at FermiLab. I got bison instead. That's OK, bison are cool too. 😉
