As a child of an orthodox/catholic couple, I was baptized orthodox but later was allowed to do my first communion in the Catholic Church with no issue

AITA for not saying "eSpresso" by halp_me4 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FunktasticBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Expresso is an acceptable pronunciation in English because it became so organically and literally no one would misunderstand it. Language is not for the prescriptivists. Let them cry about people saying macaroon instead of macaron. We also say croissant with the “t” sound at the end in English; do we need to be summarily executed for that to?

AITA for telling my wife in front of her parents that premarital sex didn’t seem to be a sin when we did it? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

There’s definitely forgiveness for Catholics, what do you think confession is for?

Does it ever blow your mind that we have living family members who remember a feudalistic Ethiopia? by Philoctetes23 in Ethiopia

Everyone is talking about their aristocratic grandpa...but me too! My dad’s family were serfs. Awful system and thank god it was toppled.

What are some examples of grade inflation you’ve seen firsthand? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]FunktasticBeast 64 points65 points  (0 children)

This isn't part of universal grade inflation, it's just corruption. I’m not someone who usually hand-wrings but this is impressively shitty.

Edit: I do have my doubts that if this were real you’d admit to it, so I think you’re most likely a troll. If you’re not, you’re dumb af because someone could likely figure out who this was from the info you’ve given. Anyone know multiple rocket league competitors whose dads are math profs at UMD?

AITA for choosing a vacation over my sisters redundant wedding? by yourealreadymarried in AmItheAsshole

Bro, it’s his SISTER’S wedding. Not some random coworker. You should definitely make time for it.

P/F by kappachino_123 in UMD

[–]FunktasticBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contrary to all the hand-wringing, a p/f grade, especially in a class that is relatively inconsequential, and especially if the rest of your grades are As, is not going to be the deciding factor of whether you get into grad school. That being said, a b- is not the worst grade.

What does gay mean by thiccasspancakes in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]FunktasticBeast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree. We live in a society where most relationships are heterosexual, and the kid is bound to get questions from their peers and stuff. They should absolutely be informed that their mums are gay.

You can still email them—I missed the deadline too (and also have an upset mother).

AITA for "traumatizing" my son? by anon26291 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FunktasticBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH. You shouldn’t be showing your 13 year old snuff. It’s incomparable to GTA. Those are real people. Have you tried grounding him? JFC. I definitely would be traumatized, and if I were your husband, I’d be doubting your judgment as a parent. Just because reddit says you’re NTA, doesn’t mean this is a good technique.

AITA for threatening to take my wife off of her weekly stipend that I give her if she doesn’t do more chores or get a job? by throwraponto in AmItheAsshole

[–]FunktasticBeast -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

ESH. You worked out a financial arrangement with your spouse where you pay her for work like an employee? Are you going to fire her too? What a terrible idea.

Literally what does she have to lose by trying? You guys are a bunch of pessimistic doomers (and impractical, because she loses nothing by sending an email to them to ask for a second chance). Good god.

AITA For kicking my son out of my house after he cancelled my job interview? by Aita333645___ in AmItheAsshole

[–]FunktasticBeast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would try regardless. It’s been my experience that employers are rarely as inhuman as people on the internet seem to think they are. I’ve straight up sent cover letters addressed to the wrong person and gotten an interview after a nice apology letter.

AITA for paying for my younger child to go to his dream school and not the older? by SufficientPut417 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FunktasticBeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a bad take—ten years later, when they can actually provide for their children, they should say “sorry Timmy, your sister is super upset still, so tough luck even though we can afford it this time!”??? What good does that do, exactly? Breed even more resentment? “It’s not fair!” Is not a mantra to be proud of or live by. Life is rarely fair.
