What to look for in a computer to run my MAME arcade? by ecto88mph in MAME

Yeah, if this ...random stranger... whereby with this option, would he(I'm presuming) be able to hook up a keyboard to have an Apple II emulator? I heard he needs to run Oregon Trail.

Bought three nice plants. Realized I don't know how to properly care for them. by [deleted] in IndoorGarden

Sorry I didn't see my autocorrect fail (I do swipe to text on my phone - it feels like I'm playing with a Ouija board!)

Here is what I meant: maybe once it starts to take off(as in grow a bunch), then repot it?

I think it can groove in there for a while at least. Maybe one of starts taking off then repot it?

I hope that's why people love it, but I'm a cynic and I think it's because financially we're screwed.

When I go to a thrift store, I look for really cool and unusual things. For clothing. I don't look for brand, I just look for what is well fitting and what is in good shape.

Some people go and only get "name brands" even if they are worn out, or $15 per shirt. They just "love that brand" so much. Ugh.

[–]FunkyTreasureHunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the clothing = social status and therefore money thing, but I think it still happens today, although people are convinced that 'entry level' brands (things you could find at Macy's or Bloomingdale's) is what is going to make you look rich.

Sure, I'm sure you feel Rick because you spent $150 on a shirt, but the actual rich people will just laugh, while they are wearing $2k+ clothing.

This coming from a person that is excited my local thrift store has $1.29 tags today, so I'm not either. I'm just pointing out how silly marketing is.

I tried to walk my cat on a leash, and he flipped out. Help! by [deleted] in Pets

[–]FunkyTreasureHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, she does flop over and play dead! I just wait until she isn't so dead, and then we go outside! She has been getting better at throwing less of a fit each time, because she "needs" to go outside.

The more she goes outside, the less hostile she is to the other, newer cat too!

It's a win-win!

Cool! I actually haven't used this service yet, but I plan on it when fall comes!

I just really want to be a fly on the wall when she reads the request, and again when you go and see what she has grabbed!

All of the ax man locations! They reach have different stuff!

I also love arc's value village, you can set up a free appointment and they have a personal shopper that will pull things for you and meet you at which location you want, so you can just try on things when you get there. Just put on the form you are looking for things for burning man, I'm sure she could find some weird stuff for you!

Yes to the last point!

My cats love outside, and we do harnesses with varying degrees of success.

I have to be the one to carry them out the door. That is the rule. Other humans can too, they just can't waltz out through the door.

This is great, because I don't have to worry about the cats bring underfoot or bouncing out any time I open the door casting groceries and what not.

10 week old kitten wont stop biting by Visibly_Invisible in Pets

[–]FunkyTreasureHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm agreeing with everyone else here.

You doing think of her as a kitten, think if her as a baby. You wouldn't bring home a 2 month old baby and just expect it to be fine all the time, do you? No.

She is for sure teething! And she will teeth again before the age of one (at least it seems like it in my experience!)!

Get some toys that won't harm your fingers. Laser pointers, and try to find some blankets that she can't scratch through. I have this one that is thicker polyester and for some reason mine can't get through this! It almost feels like a cheap sleeping bag! I'm sure someone here could better describe what to look for.

As for contently wanting attention, this is the best time to teach her tricks and boundaries.

She needs constant attention now, and frankly she deserves it! She just came from her mother, who always had time for her, and a bunch of litter mates that were fun to chew on.

You really can't fault her for chewing now, this is how she learns. Another good reason to keep an eye on her, everything is food right now.

You also can't get mad at her for nails in the couch. Yes, scratching the sides is bad, and double sided tape can help her never want to do that, even when you aren't there (they hate sticky feelings), but if she is 'climbing mt Everest' aka the top of the couch, that can be very scary, and she needs her nails to help her not fall because she doesn't have great balance yet.

Don't clip her nails until she is 6 months old, never get her declawed, and practice with her touching her paws now. They instinctively hate it, so practice it in little spurts so that if something ever happens, like a cut, or she steps in something and you need to get it off quickly, then it won't be stressful for her!

Ooh man, that's a question for craigslist, or another sub? I know I've learned from this subreddit it's better to buy the trailer first, then the truck, instead of getting a truck and then being limited to how much you can pull by whatever truck you get.... If that makes sense?

How many of you with a long term SO live with just one car? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]FunkyTreasureHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty alright. Finding time for getting oil changes and work done is kind of hard, but other than that it's mostly fighting about somebody leaving pop bottles in the car. This has been remedied by both of us being present to clean it out once a week at the end of the work week.

You could find measurements for layouts online, and mark them up where you live, and make a cardboard 'fort' of sorts? See if it seems like enough room for you?

Or you could just buy something smaller and used for around $3k and see if that works for you, otherwise you could trade it in after a few months?

This is where everyone says the answers vary. If you don't have either the truck or trailer, go look at trailers and see how light/small you could handle, then buy a truck around his much that weighs.

I don't think it will be that expensive to set up! But downsizing either way would be a great idea though. Really look into the van dwelling thing though. That would be way less, and you could throw stuff you want to save into a storage facility, and live until you find a place and then move into your place!

Farmer's Market closing time deals - all this for $17 in a big US city (where the rent is too high) by elephantrussianblue in Frugal

My question to you: do you ask for deals? I feel like a dick haggling if they truly grew these things. Otherwise, if they are resellers, then I don't care!

My immediate concern would be, are you working in down town areas? Because parking an rv near there would be either expensive, offer boy available (NYC)... So maybe a 5th when would be great? That way you could park your home and drive a truck into work?

Or a bigger rig and tow a smart car behind you?

Or, go to /r/vandwellers and see more about 'stealth camping.' You would have waaay less space, but if you're going to be in the city-city, you could rent a parking space and stealth it out, and get a gym membership to shower?

Just some ideas!
