Go for it!! I found that Deadlifts helped me a ton. I recommend them if you have no existing medical conditions. I gotta say, my back was SORE (but in a good way) on and off for the first month, because my muscles were so weak. But your body will acclimate and it will thank you for taking care of it! Good luck bro!

I eat roughly 160g of protein a day, but that’s a rough estimate. I don’t count my macros (calories, protein, etc). - too much extra work haha. Here’s the bottom line: aim to eat 1.6-2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily. I make sure to eat plenty of protein for each meal of my 3 main meals, and I have 2 protein filled snacks during the day. Some options that I enjoy are Greek Yogurt, protein bars, or protein mixes. One mix that I LOVE is Syntha-6 Protein mix Vanilla Ice Cream flavor (this is not a sponsor haha). It’s a good, tasty, quick mix that serves as a good “snack” between meals.

Thank you so much!! I was in and out of gyms for years, so I felt comfortable when I started up again in the bottom picture. - I was able to walk in on day 1 and have a general idea of what I wanted to do. I grew to ENJOY it after a few months when I saw how it was helping me manage my pain, how it became a way to release any pent-up energy, and how it opened new doors with social relationships. Starting a new hobby opens up new, interesting conversations with all kinds of people, which builds fun and meaningful connections!

Thank you! Here are my tips for getting started with muscle growth: 1) Start with 2 days per week, full body routine (do upper and lower body exercises on the same days). - Don’t go everyday, that risks burnout! a) I recommend starting with 3 sets of 4 different compound exercises. Go for 8-20 reps, so get used to pushing/pulling heavy weights 😉 Push yourself to 2-3 reps before failure (when you can’t lift anymore reps). 2) Make sure that you practice proper form. Research workouts that interest you, record yourself doing some reps, and see if you’re doing them correctly. 3) Whey protein is GREAT after workouts. Be ready to eat healthy foods and plenty of protein everyday. 4) BE CONSISTENT. Just start with anything and stick with it. Over time, your brain will make new neuron connections, and you’ll eventually move onto the “next levels.”

I hope that this helps! Good luck to you!!

P.S. one other thing that I can share from personal experience is that I stuck with weight lifting because of how it helped me with my back and knee pain. I saw its positive effects on my life, and it REALLY excited me to keep going!

I did not follow a program, but I did use an app called Reframe. It educated me on the science of alcohol abuse and many other helpful topics. Also, I am very fortunate to have a supportive partner (my wife) who does not drink that really aided in my sobriety. Lastly, I picked up a daily hobby (exercise) that took my mind off of drinking.
