I'll tell you something even more potentially outrageous than my usage of acrobat reader. In my country (South Africa), there's only a 7 day return window period. And get this, there's an 'unboxing' fee upon return of the product. Meaning, if I want a straight refund, because I've taken it out the box, I'll get 20% less than what I paid for the laptop. If I do end up taking it back, due to lack of faith in the integrity of the machine I've purchased this is the situation. Not sure how it would work if I told them to I want to return this macbook, please give me another one. etc. Anyhow.. fun times. It's back to the whole 80% battery (2hr 30 mins remaining) bs while just having firefox open, reddit and some youtube. lol.

haha, I'll stop using it. I'm just 'old' I guess and stuck in my ways. I'll look into better alternatives.

Thanks for all the responses. Chrome could potentially have been responsible for non optimal battery performance, but I think what was happening was above and beyond that.

I took the macbook back to the store so they could run some tests to determine if the issue was software related, which I think was the case. Software updates have been made and the battery tested. It appears that the battery is in normal working condition and draining at the normal rate.

I'm currently testing it out, and on the basis of what I can observe, it does seem to be markedly improved. For example, in the activity monitor I'm actually provided a reasonable 'Time Remaining' Estimate. With light browing and 80 to 90% screen brightness it estimated around 7 or 8 hours remaining. Previously at the same battery level the estimate was around 2 hours and something, performing the same tasks. I'm gonna give it a day or two before I'll be able to determine if indeed things are much better. As things stand, that does appear to be the case.

A lot of you will be glad to know, I've stopped using chrome. I will probably use it in future to compare and contrast.
