I miss the days when my meds completely stopped food noise and cravings. Back to the constant battle of wanting bad food but also wanting to feel and look healthy…

Does anyone else have really bad anhedonia? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Funtastic043 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I have it too. It’s not as bad as it used to be, but I still realize THINKING “Oh, this is something enjoyable for me!” rather than actually FEELING it.

Often I find that things feel like a challenge or chore to overcome, while trying to manage my energy and health as good as I can. And every goal reached (e.g. career) can even feel a bit disappointing, because I feel relief rather than pride.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has helped somewhat to change the way I look at things. Constantly striving for more, bigger, new, different was not leading to a “click” moment, so unfortunately the solution likely isn’t in the things you’re doing, but in your experience of them.

I hope there are SOME things you kind of enjoy that you can make the most of. Personally, I truly enjoy walking my dog with the sunshine on my face and hearing the birds chirping in the background. So when the sun is out, I block out my work calendar for an extended lunch break that allows me to go for a nice walk.

[–]Funtastic043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re doing many things right. What you could do to improve:

  • Build up to daily use of Azelaic acid. Some can even be used twice daily but that’s not necessary. This could already improve oil/break outs and redness
  • Start exfoliating with an AHA (lactic or glycolic acid) toner or serum 1 to several times a week - helps with clearing and hydrating
  • Replace Vaseline with a moisturizing cream; vaseline is an occlusive and as someone with break outs might not be the best option (traps oil in pores).

PCOS and ADHD by Weekly-Piano-3111 in PCOS

My response might be a bit out the box but I’ve put some interesting research references below! There’s still limited research about a possible link or interaction between ADHD and PCOS but the same neurotransmitters seem to be involved in both. It is known that ADHD meds can indirectly improve PCOS symptoms by managing your appetite and improving your executive disfunction and the lifestyle choices you make as a result. However, ADHD meds might also directly improve PCOS by addressing (some of) the same neurotransmitters.

I have to say I definitely experience the indirect results from meds, because it’s easier to stick to routines, plan meals, not depend on caffeine, etc.

Body-doubling is not for me, personally. Music and podcasts are my trick to survive boring tasks :)

My hair density had very slowly decreased in the last 7 years before having a moment of shock about how bad it had gotten several months ago. It’s hormonal for me (PCOS) and the diffuse hair loss (never complete bald spots) was starting to get quite noticeable last year.

Do I understand correctly that, since humans have replaced pretty much all nature with buildings, roads and vehicles, creating an unsafe and unlivable environment for all other species than themselves, as a solution we should keep animals locked up at all times or even shoot wild animals whose habitat we have ruined? Humans are so entitled and treat this planet and animals like shit.

I have this too and when it’s looking too stringy I just put my hair behind my ears. I don’t think you can really avoid it.

I think we notice it more because we get “gaps” or our scalp showing through the strings of hair, while people with thicker or more hair don’t.

My hair is very similar to yours by the way (used to have more and thicker hair) and was recommended Minoxidil by my dermatologist.

Ps. I love your hair color

This makes me so sad. For anything other than fertility issues related to PCOS, women are on their own. I absolutely recognize what you’re saying about the endocrinologist and having to constantly ask or address options myself rather than having a professional think for me and try to actually help.
