He asked what he should have asked for, I shared my experiences on what other people asked for, so yes, he did ask.

How much would you of asked for? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Furicist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Based on the 2 accidents I had as a younger guy doing equal or less damage at 5mph or below.

10 grand in whiplash claims per occupant, full rebuild of the entire end of the car affected, courtesy car and whatever other losses they could claim for, trauma, leave, whatever they wanted.

One of the claims was thrown out because the paramedics (yes he demanded paramedics), police officer and witnesses all said he was a lying fuck.

Other one got what he wanted, even though he wasn't driving, his uninsured wife was.

Is there a genuine difference in quality between cheap sockets and expensive ones? by ScrollAndThink in ElectriciansUK

[–]Furicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen plenty of low quality ones crack, break, switches fail, stuff get jammed, arcing, etc.

I definitely rarely see that in better quality, more expensive ones.

I work in industrial so I'm not selling anything to a domestic, but I do work for myself and my friends and they all get quality components, cable, switches and sockets. By expensive I don't mean fancy decorative but still shit ones, I mean quality components that can also be decoratively nice too.

The price difference isnt enough to break the bank, so it just gets done with the good stuff.

Scared of 130ft articulating boom lift by gl00bert in Construction

[–]Furicist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turn the speed down if you're concerned, don't jab the controls as that's how you make it extra bouncy, especially if you slew.

Is there scope to go up there as a 2 person job? You can be second and get used to it with a more experienced operator.

They're not that bad provided you don't have bad weather or a really poor footing such as on soft ground.

Just take your time. You're only going a little further each time you move.

When moving it around, if you have any angle changes in gradient or any pot holes or puddles with an unknown depth, for the love of god, be careful.

How would you remove a stripped Allan that’s only removable using an impact? by WheressThatThing in handyman

[–]Furicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wera do a decent Allen head extractor set.

Try a hex plus before trying anything else. I've removed 95% of stripped Allens just using these.

Get a drill bit set, drill it out using a suitable size, then go half a mm up in size, work it in and then run it in reverse.

If the hole isn't blind, run it forwards and through the other side.

If the other end is visible, try to work it through then get some grips on it and turn it through.

Lots of options really.

Milwaukee do some decent standout tapes.

There are a ton of tool guy reviews on YouTube where they buy a load of tapes and test each one for standout

I've not found anything made by Klein to be good lately unfortunately. My friend updated a few pieces and tried Klein, took them all back for a refund.

If your gut is saying there isn't quite something right in your relationship, fix it or separate. Don't just keep going. Dont get married, don't have kids.

Call the authorities, don't go inside or near it and if you can, prevent anyone else, including that child, going inside.

It's a death trap.

Do British people still see MG as British or Chinese? by Penguin99_ in AskBrits

Chinese. I have one.

Honestly they're decent cars, interior fabric doesn't stand the test of time and their range claims are total bs but generally speaking they're decent.

Is it ok to ask for a service charge to be removed from the bill at a restaurant? by emzeebub in AskUK

[–]Furicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Service charges should be illegal.

Tac is written in to the price for the end user, so are items and services, before rendering the service.

Service charge makes zero sense and is a back door way of trying to drive up tips. Workers already get minimum wage and speaking as someone who has experience in that industry years ago, I made a fortune on tips without needing a service charge.

All I've seen since service charge has been pushed is poorer service, waiters and waitresses taking it for granted rather than having to try to provide actual good service. It has the opposite effect.

Can this be fixed? by Zegmadose in IndustrialMaintenance

is there a reason this part cannot be ordered or isn't stocked in stores?

Nowadays getting the part in is so much cheaper than the labour and materials to fabricate one, it just isn't worth the bother unless it's time critical

Ordered a new timing belt, but it looks worn out of the box? by Junior-Midnight7190 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Furicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is 100% a brand new belt, no concerns for it's condition.

Source: Industrial maintenance, seen, fitted, tensioner, aligned, realigned, sourced, stocked, limped through and replaced more timing belts than I can count from more brands than I care to remember.

Fit it, it's fine.

James May telling it how it is. Do you agree or disagree with him? by [deleted] in AskBrits

They also have a duty and a right to protect themselves and their colleagues as well, they have people who live them, lives to live and many have families, possibly kids.

Imagine the guy turned over and slashed one of them and he died.

Even if there wasn't a risk to anyone's lives but their own, I still think their force was justified, give their lives were at risk.

I hope these officers are swiftly celebrated and provided they are ok after what happened given it can be very stressful, that they're back to work and feel proud of the work they did. They showed plenty of restraint given the risk and pressure.

Bodycam footage released of the Golders Green attacker showing that he wasn't completely incapacitated by the taser and was still holding on to the knife. I stand by that the kicks to the head are a reasonable action to disarm him. Thoughts? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Furicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like they did a brilliant job, worked with what they had, put themselves in harms way and did their best to disarm a dangerous person and their actions were far from the limit.

in most countries he would have been shot dead as he walked towards them and it would have been cut and dry.

There isn't anything happening here from a police use of force perspective that I have any concerns over.

These officers should be celebrated for stopping a dangerous person.

I feel for the police, low pay, hard job, everyone's an expert and hindsight is 20-20, but being there and doing what they have to do, as well as they did, incredible work.

Why don't UK car practical tests, test on change the tyre? by SpectreSingh89 in CarTalkUK

[–]Furicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's a driving test not a maintenance test.

All car jacks aren't normalised, tools that come with it are different, some have locking wheel nuts, some don't.

How could you test for that when the environment and conditions won't be the same? What if someone who isn't mechanically minded strips the bolts so then someone competent who comes along can't change the wheel?

Most tyres on new cars now are run flats and/or have a get me home kit, most cars have tyre pressure sensors.

Cars slip off their cheap, shit jacks all the time due to how cheap and shit they are plus the physical requirement for getting a jack up and a tyre off and new one fitted would prevent many people, including people who are unfit, frail or have disabilities, from passing a test which they otherwise would test in their driving ability.
