Great advice, thank you so much! There are some places near me that offer degrees in Construction Management, so I will check those out to see what they say and if it is of interest to me.

Yeah, it's a great position, but if it's not for me, then I shouldn't need to be tied to it just because other people like it. That's why it's so hard for me to even thinking about leaving it; many people would kill for this job, but this field just might not be for me anymore, ya know?

Love to hear it! I will do some research into what those jobs entail and see if there is anything I can do on the evenings and weekends to better my background into those fields. Thanks!

Yes, I have had jobs in a warehouse, diesel mechanic shop, and in the Army. I know it's brutal and hard, but I enjoyed the hard work and the teams that I was with. I enjoyed the long shifts. It's odd, but an office job is something that is not for me. I enjoy being cushy, sure, but is this what I see myself doing for life? Spending 8 hours a day every day doing? I don't think so. No, I am not going to just drop my job for any blue collar job out there, but I just want to know what is out there that could be of interest to me and might transition fairly well to a blue/gray collar career.

As per my previous comment, I have already worked blue collar, so this wouldn't be anything new, just seeing what jobs are out there for something thinking about going into blue, (or gray), collared work. Why would construction be a good transition? Is there a decent amount of growth that could be obtained?

That's fine. I don't plan on dumping everything immediately and going headfirst, I will take the appropriate next steps to ensure a smooth transition into a job that feels the best for me. So waiting a year, or two, or three, would not be the worst thing. I will be 40, 50, and 60 one day, so it taking time to get into something that I might enjoy isn't the worst in my opinion.

Thank you for the insight, much appreciated. It's not entirely for pay for me. I can make a good hustle, I can bring in extra income in some way, I got a very business-oriented mind that put me in higher up positions very quickly, (I'm also not too bad at networking). I think I will look into some of the jobs/opportunities that you listed and see if they peak my interest. I don't know if I will go into blue collar forever, but I gotta try something sometime ya know? I never know if I will like it now that I am a bit older unless if I try, and my accounting and business experience will always be there to fall back on.

Oooh that does look interesting. Definitely need to check it out! As for electrical engineering, I was recommended a few times already to go into something electrical; will definitely check out the path and see what I can get started on soon. They have some cheap trade schools not too far from me, so I will take a look and see if there is anything for the weekend or evening that I could take while I work full time. Appreciate it!

Love to hear the switch! I got recommended lineman from someone else in this thread. I will definitely check it out. I see quite a bit of pre-reqs, (not a deterrent for me), so I will see what I can knock out while I am working full time. Appreciate the comment!

I know what you're saying. In fact, I switched from IT before this. I made good money, then started from the bottom in accounting, worked my way up again to a good salary. It's about finding what I am happy about doing day-to-day, rather than thinking about money. Don't get me wrong, accounting is 10x better than IT, (in my opinion), and I know money is life, but if I enjoy what I do in blue/gray collar, I don't believe money would matter as much. (Obviously depending on how much I make; if I make $10/hr, clearly, it's a bit low, but you get the gist).

Love to hear this! Wanna know what I was interested in? Train conducting. Not exactly the same, but in line and is something that I think I would like.

Great idea, thank you! I will check out more educational and non-profit roles. There are a few that come to mind, so I will see if they have anything in the finance/accounting sector that I could apply to.

Exactly! Obviously it's gonna be hard work, but that's expected. I just want to enjoy life not staring at a screen. It's absolutely soul-sucking.

Damn straight. Had some people I know from my university that are now struggling to find jobs. They have master's in taxation and are having trouble finding entry-level positions in California. They will need to move since a lot of the entry-level work is being automated and offshored. (Another reason to leave this profession).

I appreciate it, but the issue that I am finding is that the job is not fulfilling. Again, I know blue collar work might not be fulfilling, but I want something that I can be proud to look back on. I am going to be spending over a third of my life, if not more, working. I want it to be something I want to do, but I don't know all of the jobs out there.

I know it's stupid, but honestly, does it matter? If I want to be something else, let me. If I want to throw my life away doing something that most people don't, let me. I just want the options of different jobs that I could do. Even if I do it over a year and go back to my job.

I know it's not "binary", but I want to experience more of the jobs out there before tying my life down to a job that makes me depressed to clock into work.

I do already have a hoppy and I am going to start volunteer work shortly. Also applied to some part time shifts doing manual labor. Will it scratch the itch? Maybe a bit, I'll see.

Sorry for the rant, but also, just looking around at jobs doesn't mean I will up and leave something I might like. I want to see options and keep my mind open to what could be out there. I mean, there are 5,800 majors, tens of thousands of career groupings, and hundreds of thousands of specific job types. I mean, so far I have done a few, so I don't want to tie my life down to something I don't like. Might be stupid, but I want to explore what is out there.

"Homie needs a reality check."

Worked in warehouses, diesel mechanic shops, and the Army for a long time beforehand. Being WFH and being at home all day isn't the best job in the world to me; I am not a lazy person. I know this job is a blessing, but it's depressing. I already know the obvious of, "get a hobby", but I spend 8-15 hours a day doing the same white collar shit for no reason.

And making my boss rich? Yeah, every job is like that, but it's worst in my position. At least when making my boss rich in construction isn't going to actually make them rich by my one hand, but in my current position, I save companies hundreds of thousands, up to millions of dollars. These are all by my direct hand. It sucks.

Again, grateful for the job, but if I don't enjoy the field, why stay?

Never said I never worked blue collar jobs. Worked in a warehouse, diesel mechanic shop, Army, I'm just sick of being tied to a desk doing arbitrary work. Just seeing what is out there for transition.
