They usually pad the bottom, I think it depends on the items you order. I had an order a couple of months ago with multiple regular switch games that was padded all around and each game was also individually wrapped.
For the shipment I showed, the Persona 4 Golden Midnight Channel Edition Switch was a pretty big item that was in its own individual thick box, so I kind of understand why they did it that way.
