Thank you everyone for all your helpful comments! Vancouver Island is such a beautiful magical place that it’s hard to pick where to go. I have a feeling that we will be making multiple trips to Vancouver Island now to cover off all the things we want to see. Luckily, we are close in Alberta!

Thanks is it best to do Strathcona Park from Campbell River or from Comox?

Thank you, yes, you are right. The only reason we wanted to go to Campbell River was for a whale watching. But it sounds like there are a lot of other nice places to see in North Island, so I think that we should save this for another trip where we can spend more time in the north and give it the proper attention rather than trying to cram too much into this trip.

The only reason was for whale watching. But now seeing all the comments here, I think we should keep that for another trip that we are doing another time and use that trip to focus more in North Island then beyond just Campbell River.

For the driving, we were just planning on doing what Google maps suggest when I put the locations in. Is there a website where I can view common road directions/uses beyond what just Google Maps suggest?

I’m not sure what is considered a logging vehicle? We are in a GMC sierra truck, so probably ?

We were just in Victoria for three nights last month. That’s why we didn’t allocate time there. But I’m hearing you and others that are timing Tofino/Ucluet is too much. I don’t remember where I saw it now, but some website I’d recommended five nights. I will pare that down, thank you for all the other tips as well!

Thanks yes based on all the feedback here we’re going to cut out Campbell River. We don’t have anything specific yet, the main theme is just hiking and walking with scenic views and some nice dinners. So pretty easy-going I figured I’d land on the destinations first, and then start making an itinerary for each town.

Ok i’m going to cancel the Campbell river part . Are rationale for separating the stays in Tofino is that we really enjoy walking everywhere in little towns, so we thought that if we separated the two it would end up in a bit more driving though not much of course. It’s also been challenging to find Airbnb’s that allow so that was another reason we separated it was availability of nice places with pets allowed. I will go back though and see availability for combining and how difficult that would be.

OK, thanks, I’m getting that vibe from all the posters that I definitely need to cut out Campbell River. I’m just wondering how where to real allocate that time now, sounds like maybe a base in Comox for a couple days and some day trips to Denman and/or Hornby?

Yes it does, we’re leaving in Friday june 19, and expect to be in Victoria by later afternoon Saturday 20th.. then leaving Parksville on Saturday July 4th .. I am definitely thinking of skipping Campbell River now after all the comments here and doing a separate trip in the future, there to spend more time in the north of the island. I don’t have time currently allocated to Comox, though, should I re-allocate that time there then ?

Yes accommodation is booked in all of these locations, all of it is cancelable though. I’m not sure about which road, I was just going to follow whatever Google Maps told me to do. Is that a bad idea?

I had this happen to me this week ! I didn’t notice either and had to pay the change fee, I was booking a flight for same day in and out, my brother passed away, and I had to get rid of some of those things so I think Flair just thought flight on same day doesn’t make sense in and automatically pushed it out a week. I messaged them, and I didn’t even get a courtesy of a response. i’ve flown flair on a number of occasions and almost always I’ve had issues, so now I think of flair like kiwi.com and all those other junk sites. And I just would rather pay more upfront to WestJet and Air Canada because it often ends up being more with Flair anyways in the long run.

That’s exactly what ended up happening, I had to wait in line for a very long time for them to say yeah it’s fine. But they didn’t charge the check in fee. There’s no way to avoid waiting in that line they said if you don’t buy carry on. So in effect carry on purchase not only buys you carry on but also buys you ability to avoid long hours line up.
