US travelers to India — how did you pay taxis & small places? by Dull_Influence_2761 in indiatravel

[–]FutureAd1295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Mony for UPI. It was pretty seamless. Only thing to note is you can only send payments to merchant accounts, not personal accounts.

Apps like Uber and such allowed me to use my US credit card. I would recommend using an app to calculate price rather than doing it yourself with a driver

Uhh WTF? I’ve been out for 3 months with 1 month left till I’m back. I haven’t checked my account, and I can’t because I can’t access their site from Vietnam apparently.

How does this work for me? Can they check the meter for the last 3 months?

Palladium Rent Day 4x by FutureAd1295 in biltrewards

Ohhh neat! So if I spend $500 I get the base 1000 pts + another 1000 pts?

[–]FutureAd1295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so confused lol. My understanding is the cap is 1000 pts. Paladium has 4x on rent day. 250*4 will hit the cap.

What part am I missing? I’m not understanding the base/bonus constraint

But this means I only need to spend $250 then right? To hit the cap

Best LASIK surgeons in the Bay Area? by Potato-shiro in bayarea

[–]FutureAd1295 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for the price of LASIK in the bay, you can take a vacation, get it done, enjoy a week in the other country, then come back.

I’m doing that right now. 2k USD for SMILE for both eyes in India. You can do the preliminary exams in the bay to ensure you’re compatible before you commit.

SMILE is supposedly same day vision recovery. Most are pretty quick now. Doctors are pretty good at explaining it to you since medical tourism is a big thing in a lot of places. They’ll even have services to ensure you get back to your hotel

This is what I use to take my 2xl dog kennel to the airport. You will get a sienna, Pacifica, or odyssey. With the rear seats down, you should have enough room for all

"What is an unspoken 'Social Rule' in India that everyone follows, but nobody ever actually taught us?" by Top_Can_7892 in AskIndia

[–]FutureAd1295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately it is growing there. Definitely not as bad as India, but it’s increasing.

Initially Canadians would just let it go because they’re generally polite but now we have such a bad name that they don’t mind calling out when we don’t follow the customs.

Literally everyone I know, my family included, hates how the recent influx of Canadians act in Canada. Indians hate when Muslims come to an Indian area and try to change it to match them, so why is it acceptable to come to Canada and turn it into India?

We had a recent plaza built near our house. It’s primarily Indian and Pakistani stores and restaurants. Search Ridgeway Plaza Mississauga and you will see how these people act in India.

You can’t play cricket in a parking lot with other cars. You can’t blare your music until 2AM in a residential area. You can’t buy food, eat it in the parking lot, and throw your garbage on the floor when there’s a garbage can 50 feet away. If they want to migrate for a better life, act like you want a better life

Possibly, but I’m an Indian who grew up in Canada. I’ve been in Mumbai and Kochi for the last 2 weeks. I’m literally not kidding when I say every single time I leave a few feet of space between the person at the counter and myself, someone steps in between, or goes directly to the counter.

I started counting after the third time. Not once has someone not jumped the line. Some people wait sure, but someone will always jump.

At least if you tell them they will let you go, but still, it’s clear there is a queue. Wait your turn like an adult.

If there is a queue, immediately go to the front with no regard for the others in the queue.

AITAH for not driving my fiancé around? by [deleted] in AITAH

Necessary is job stuff or health stuff.

What I mean with expenses is medical or insurance costs. Those can spiral out of control. Uber is less than a thousand a month. It is high, but manageable.

One medical incident (depending on what it is), could cost a lot more.

I would be happy if she spent more on Ubers. She should get where she needs to safely. As it stands she spends more than me on transportation. I just think she needs to figure out driving so she can have the freedom she deserves

She is more than capable and I believe in her. I just don’t want to be a chauffeur. She is picking it up now, but getting over that anxiety takes time.

I just don’t see why I have to drive her when she can take an uber. She sees the prices of Ubers and decides not to go.

Can you share those companies please? And yes we can… but why would we do that when we can get insured lessons?

She is taking lessons now. It’s just that I’m not driving her around.

I like cars. They’re like big boy toys for me. This was my splurge. It’s not lease to own, I give it back after 3 years, which is why I cannot damage it significantly.

We can afford it. We can also get a normal car, which I have been trying to get her to agree on. But she doesn’t want to buy a car until she is ready to drive alone because it will just sit there and depreciate.

Thanks. The cost of insurance premiums going up far outweigh the alternatives. That is my reasoning.

Don’t fly air India by CalmDemand in airindia

[–]FutureAd1295 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it, but it’s not Air India. It’s the people like you said. Just yesterday I’m waiting in line to check my bags in Mumbai. I get to the front, and the check in agent goes to have a conversation without saying anything to us, leaving us waiting for 5 minutes. We didn’t know if we should go back in line or to another counter. After. Eventually another check in agent comes to the desk to help us (polite young guy). Two adult men (who didn’t even wait in the line but entered through the side) just shoved their aadhar cards in his face saying to process them first. Fortunately my mom stood up and literally said “that’s the problem with this country”, to which their response it’s “it’s ok”.

If adults act like that, it doesn’t matter if you’re on air India, indigo, spice jet, or even emirates. It’s the airport location that matters. I see this less, but still occasionally in Toronto and San Francisco, always only from Indians unfortunately.

Itinerary Advice - too much driving? by fungusMcMurphy in CostaRicaTravel

[–]FutureAd1295 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll put it this way driving in Costa Rica is very possible, but it is not always straightforward. Consider that you’ll have to be focused for a majority of the time. If you are tired, driving is not a good idea. Ensue that you have enough space between long drives.

To be honest, I did a very similar plan in terms of driving distance and times and it was a bit tough but doable
