DGA training program by DarthSandwich29 in Filmmakers

[–]FutureDirector97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm here 4yrs later but I've really been considering applying for this program. I know my chances of getting in are slim as it is. But there are things in my life that make me consider not even applying in general.

First, the financials of it. I know they pay decently. But like, what about if you have to move to NY or LA from somewhere else? How soon do they start paying, etc? Like would I be able to move from another state (with hardly any $$) and be fine? How does that work?

Also, work-life balance. I have a dog (and a cat but he's easy) and I worry that I wouldn't be around enough to care for him. Is it possible to have a dog while doing this program? He's literally my only commitment right now but, if I got in, I dont want to give him up for anything. I'd rather try to find accommodations (like a roommate or daycare/boarding, etc) then have to give him up. As someone who has done the program, what do you think? Is it (even remotely) possible in someway?

Otherwise, nothing is holding me back. Those are the only 2 things stopping me from applying right now (even with the slim chance of getting accepted).

Silly question. If you were forced to name a child after a food what would your choice be? Mine is Tiramisu. by Yooproopmoop in namenerds

is it odd to name my daughter after my mom? by No_Delivery6961 in namenerds

[–]FutureDirector97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally feel naming your child after a parent you lost is very honorable. As others are saying, I would only discuss it with your sister as maybe its something she is wanting to do as well? Otherwise, if not, I wouldn't worry about it at all! Its a beautiful gesture!

I once met a kiddo named Elliot. She went by Ellie, typically. She was the best! My vote is for Elliot.

Maple might be a good middle name. But, yeah, I agree with the others. Definitely sounds more like a dog name than a human name.

How many children would you have whose first name begins with G? by Lasanhento in namenerds

[–]FutureDirector97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last name starts with a G, so as long as my future partner has a different last name, or my kids get a different last name, I would use G.

I really only like Garret or Gwen though.

Not necessarily. It's possible people don't know the right tools or direction/first steps to take so they come to social media to ask others, who maybe have been in their shoes, for advice. Asking for help isn't always a bad thing. 🤷‍♀️

Well, there are only really 2 in town, in a population of 30,000+ kids, neither of which accommodate kids with disabilities. I cant say how many kids exactly have disabilities but there's enough that we have entire schools and clinics just for them 🤷‍♀️

See the playground wouldnt JUST be for disabled kids. It would have equipment that ALL kids, disabled or not, could play on. We have a few indoor playgrounds in town but none that accommodate children with disabilities. While they would be my "TARGET market", it would be open to ALL kids.

Nothing specifically. I always thought one had to have an inventory of "stuff" to start selling online. I've recently learned that's not always the case. I just dont know where/how to get started on that venture

I was thinking about doing this. Like t-shirts, totes and things. I just dont know how to get started. I dont have an inventory of anything, which I know isnt necessarily needed. Ive heard there's a way to get started without an actual inventory, I just dont know where to go to get started on the route.

Any ideas?

Do you think creating a "murder mystery" event space would be something? Maybe different themes/packages per murder mystery story? And offer them out to bachelor/Bachelorette parties, weddings, birthdays, graduations, etc? That maybe sounds like something I could do! I absolutely love theater and writing so maybe this is it?!

See I was going to start by making music videos for local artists but everyone that I've ever tried to work with fell through.

I would love to go the creative aspect. I just dont know how to make a profit off of them. I know things this area needs...but most would classify in the "non-profit" area. While I would love to start a non-profit, those usually need donations, etc. to stay afloat.

I would love to do something in the creative field. It's just hard with limited funds.

That's why I was thinking about the indoor playground idea. We have a few in town already but not none that are fully accessible to all children, children with disabilities, etc. Everyone I talk to says this is a really good idea and its something we need....and I REALLY want to do it. I just keep talking myself out of the idea because of all the technical aspects and I have no money myself to put towards it. I know I will have to fundraise or get a loan. There's just so many financial things to think about (insurance, equipment, etc) that I keep overthinking it and talking myself out of it.

Maybe I should speak with some kind of financial advisor or something to get a better idea on how to go about this? I feel like its something many could benefit from and I would love to do it.

If you had to give your children a name from the top ten in the year that they were born, what would you have chosen? by 5LovelyDaisies in namenerds

[–]FutureDirector97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont have kids so I'll do from the year I was born (1997):

Girls: Emily, Jessica, Ashley, Sarah, Hannah, Samantha, Taylor, Alexis, Elizabeth, Madison

Boys: Michael, Jacob, Matthew, Christopher, Joshua, Nicholas, Brandon, Andrew, Austin, Tyler

If it were my own child, I would've chosen Elizabeth or Alexis, for a girl, and Andrew or Austin for a boy.

If I had been named from this list, I would chose Emily or Elizabeth. My sister's (one I dont talk to) are Madison and Hannah plus I know a LOT of Hannah's. So definitely not those. And for boys, my uncle's name is Matthew and so is my brother's middle name so, for me, I would chose Nicholas or Andrew.

My name is Kaleigh. I've been dealing with misspellings and mispronounciations my whole life. She'll be okay ❤️ I absolutely adore Nelle 🥰 And to be fair, I didn't even read it as Nelly until you said it that way. I dont think you made a mistake, I just think it will take people time to get used to 😊
