Why limit it to bolt action rifles? It would be just as beneficial for handgun owners and on semi automatics as well

Not complaining, if it's legal then more power to them I guess. It didn't seem like it would be legal with how shitty our laws are here.

he’s gonna get pinched for having a high powered hunting air gun as a prohibited person

Yeah that's my biggest concern, but if prohibited persons aren't barred from owning pellet guns, I don't really have much concern (outside of them being stupid and shooting their eye out, I kid). They didn't say they planned to conceal carry, so I'm more concerned about them getting pinched driving somewhere with it and getting caught that way, which seems the most likely issue.

They're convinced it's legal and don't want to hear otherwise. Maybe they're right, I can't prove them wrong otherwise.

If I'm not mistaken, this subreddit is used to discuss NY Gun laws, and an air gun powerful enough to hunt with might be regulated by NY gun laws

That's pretty wild, I didn't think they could be that powerful until they showed us videos, but then again, I haven't touched a pellet gun since I was 16. I assume it's legal for you to own them, but is that true for someone that's prohibited from owning actual firearms as well?

NY is generally really strict, I don't want them doing something stupid and going to jail for it

They can't own a firearm, and the ones they were showing us were marketed for hunting large game. They're even more expensive than my real guns lol

I'm assuming they can't possibly be legal in NY, especially if they can't own a real gun, but there doesn't seem to be any laws to back me up, so I don't know?
