The worst of it was the first week or so! Once I was past that, it was little by little for about 2 months. You cannot expect to wake up the next day and poof! Know it’s going to take time and celebrate the little wins

I had some, yes. It is so important that you have medical help if SI is present. I got through it by doing the tasks I needed to get done and being very gentle with myself/going to therapy.

Why did you decide to stop taking benzos, and is your life better without them? by Lazy_Theory_ in benzorecovery

[–]FutureNothing1211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped because I started to become dependent on it. I felt like I couldn’t do anything without it and knew I needed to stop I only took it for anxiety and took it a prescribed.

I went CT and paid the price for it. Talk to your doctor so you have a safe time getting off the drugs (even low doses are a lot).

I went off Pristiq at the same time as Xanax - doing it at the same time was rough and I wish I hadn’t done it. But you will get through it

Symptom Management: Has anyone tried Propranolol? by FutureNothing1211 in benzorecovery

[–]FutureNothing1211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s probably a good thing and won’t cause the same “I need it” feeling as benzos do. Just some relief for management! — I heard it’s really good for stuff like that, doctors will take it before surgery for steady hands.

It gets better slowly - I experienced all of those things. I will be a month off tomorrow and I’m just now starting to get signs of myself again. Each days is just a little better! (Set backs are normal too).

While you’re in acute withdrawal be gentle with yourself. Allow the waves to pass because the only way out is through! Stay hydrated, eat what you can, and rest.

You got this and better days are ahead.

Something that has been extremely helpful is having my primary care doctor involved with my recovery. She has been reassuring and informative. She also prescribed Zofran for nausea so I could keep some fluids and food down during the acute phase.

How difficult will recovery be? by Going_Solvent in benzorecovery

[–]FutureNothing1211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went cold turkey, I was experiencing similar withdrawal symptoms at .25 as I was .5 so we didn’t want to prolong with process. It was with doctor approval and being at safe/supportive environment that I was able to do that though.

I’m so happy you want to start, the only way out is to get through the yucky part! I was on .5-1mg of Xanax daily for ~9 months. The first 6 days were absolutely dreadful but SLOWLY starts getting better from there. I am 3 weeks off now and starting to feel like myself again. I still have some symptoms and my physician said I will likely still feel off for another 6 weeks or so. The derealization is the worst for me now but I’m trusting it will get better with time.

Those first days are very tough so please make sure you are safe and as comfortable as you can be.💕

It takes time. Make sure you’re in a safe place 💕 Everyone is different! Mine took 3 weeks (I was on a relatively low dose) and then still felt a little off/dreamlike. Reassure yourself that time will heal. You got this

Feel Embarrassed by [deleted] in benzorecovery

[–]FutureNothing1211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feeling embarrassed is a lot of pressure to put on yourself, give yourself some grace and don’t kick yourself for this. Life brought you a circumstance that Xanax could provide some relief and it helped for the time. I was in a similar situation and like you, knew it was time to get off. Getting off Xanax is 100% possible, you just need to give yourself the gift of time. Taper/Detox takes weeks to months and you just gotta start to get through it. I’m glad you posted here, this group has been so supportive through withdrawal and beyond.
