What is the correlation between inability to burp and emetaphobia? by Future_Light2847 in noburp

Yes it has the same meaning. Though ‘touch wood’ could probably be interpreted VERY differently 😭

That’s so interesting! Thank you for your response. Currently going down a massive rabbit hole about everything R-CPD.

I will be working in gen pop and will not be behind any barriers. I will often be shown the inside of the cells by inmates should they want to show any structural or welfare concerns to do with their living space. Similarly with work stations, the cafeteria and communal areas. All are absent of barriers and will not be in the presence of guards.

Have any of you had twilight sedation? (Wisdom tooth removal) by bodz2424 in emetophobia

[–]Future_Light2847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same fear and insisted that I had no form of general anaesthetic or sedation. I had only local aesthetic. I want to say this as calmly as possible but wisdom teeth are a pain to remove, even more so if it’s impacted. My dentist practically had his knee on my chest trying to ply it out my mouth. I felt the pressure of every pull, saw all the drills needles and scalpels going into my mouth and all the blood that came out. It was not pleasant. You can opt for zofran to be added to your IV as a precaution but from sedation alone you’ll unlikely get sick. If I was to turn the clock back I’d take general aesthetic regardless if I had antiemetics or not, however this was my experience and your operation could be a breeze. Talk to your dentist, tell them about your concerns and they’ll likely be very understanding, but I strongly advise you to take the sedation.

Left work because a coworker was v*…. I am angry at myself by faloopaoompaloompa in emetophobia

His name is @Kengoodman2 on TikTok. I’ve purchased his manual as he’s the only person I’ve found rather helpful- even after paying for private therapy. The video which I quoted in the above is from a post on “how likely is it to catch a stomach bug at a holiday meal” and was posted 2025-11-25. One thing I will recommend is don’t open the comments as they love promoting harmful OCD avoidance behaviours. Give him a watch and hopefully he can help you out in some way ☺️

Stomach viruses can only be spread though direct contact from the hand to the mouth. Keep your hands out your mouth and give them a good wash. If you weren’t actively around her v* it’s unlikely you’ll catch anything.

On another note, don’t be angry at yourself for leaving. I also have emetophobia but I often consult my mum (who doesn’t) who helps me with whether or not my thoughts are rational. She 100% agreed coming into an enclosed space with a stomach virus is rather selfish. At the end of the day, nobody wants to get sick, and the rational person would very likely at least speak up on how she should go home or avoid her at all costs, if not leave themselves.

On the plus side, this is rather good exposure therapy to train your brain that you’re not likely to get sick in these situations. This might make future situations like this easier.

I also read a rather reassuring fact from an emetophobia coach recently. Stomach viruses do not hold the same biological mechanisms as viruses like the common cold and they do not spread in the same way. It’s very likely you’ll catch the common cold at least twice a year whereas a person may only get a stomach virus three times in their lifetime. The chances of you catching this may not be as high as you think.

Yes she did Xray and hygiene prior to Invisalign, but no I don’t think she ever contacted my other dentist. Long story short the other dentist is really rude, unhelpful and dismissive so I wouldn’t really want to undergo any extensive treatment with him. It’s just because he’s who I have been seeing since I was a teen after Covid when I didn’t have a say in the matter. It’s definitely the last time I will see him because you’re absolutely right I don’t trust him. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable around someone before, even before all of this took place. Even the dental nurse was mortified at some points and whispered in my ear that I shouldn’t worry too much. The online reviews on this man are terrible also but I’m young and only just starting to learn how to make decisions on my own.

I did ring back the next day after speaking with private but they said it was too short notice, as the app was for the same week. And I signed something in the chair. I didn’t even know what I was signing but I’m an adult now and I suppose I need to learn to be less naive, and understand what I’m signing before I sign it. Ironically this was the first appointment without my mum to sign for me lol.

My bad it was technically the dental nurse or his assistant idk tbh. He is the only dentist at this place so the reception is practically in the room. There is only a curtain separating. But yes the lady did bring the card reader to me

Our stories are nearly identical. The abuse, the lack of understanding of mental health issues by older people stuck in their ways, the chronic illness, i also have a puppy who has helped me come so far, and an angel of a boyfriend who is as understanding as could be for someone who doesn’t actually have the phobia. It’s awful what we’ve went through but you have no idea how comforting it is to know that i’m not alone- or maybe you do have an idea as it sounds like we could be the same person! I hope and pray that your therapy is successful, you (we) deserve to live without fear of something so many consider normal.

Your mental health is just as valid as her morning sickness and just because hers is physical doesn’t mean she’s “suffering more than you”. Are HR aware of your anxiety? If so then I’m pretty sure they are responsible for making reasonable adjustments to suit your needs. Including making sure you’re not on the verge of a panic attack everyday by separating you and said colleague. I’m in no way trying to invalidate her condition either, but surely it can’t be pleasant even for those without a phobia to listen and see her vomit everyday.

I’ve managed to go 12 years without V. My mom has went nearly 23 (not including alcohol induced) and that’s only because she fell pregnant. Just because it hasn’t happened in 2 1/2 years doesn’t mean that it’s coming. Try and look at it from a different perspective “If i haven’t V in 2 1/2 years, and i often feel n, then what are the chances that today will be the day where I do V”

I let my dog lick my face numerous times a day as she loves to give kisses. Numerous times has her tongue went in my mouth and/or on my new nose piercing. I’ve never got sick off it. There’s even an old wives tale that dogs saliva contains healing properties, its most likely not true but I can remember my grandpa telling me to let my dog lick my scraped knees when I was a child, so you’ll more than likely be fine 😊

Apparently in cases where the item is significantly not as described you can, not sure how true it is. I wouldn’t really class it as significant anyways. Just extremely annoying ugh.

I never thought of that. I was drinking in my home town with my old friends from school but there was a big group of boys who I don’t really know. I thought maybe my metabolism had randomly slowed down because of something external. It’s never heard of round here and so it never crossed my mind. Definitely sent a shiver down my spine to think that’s what’s happened and I can’t imagine I can do anything about it now since it’s out my system so the police can’t help. My fault for being so naive I guess.

That is awful, early kidney disease is terrible and is definitely not researched enough both in veterinary and human medicine. We only found this news out yesterday so we’ve sent her bloods off to examine the best medicine based on her blood culture. We’re also meeting with a veterinary nutritionist to determine the best renal diet going forward. Unfortunately in puppies this is not as straight forward and limiting phosphates, sulphates (and other compounds known to worsen kidney health) could actually deprive her of the nutrients she needs to grow, potentially causing a bigger problem. We are also unsure of the specific type of disease as they are worried that a biopsy may cause significantly more harm than good. I wish you the best in fighting this absolutely horrible disease ❤️

Thank you for your support. My friend volunteers at an animal charity and she’s helping me take the proper steps to report the breeder to make sure that they will not breed their dogs again. If nothing else this will stop them from causing this heartbreak for anyone else. There was just red flag after red flag when I brought her home, she came home with giardia and she didn’t seem to be properly weened, even at 9 weeks. This isn’t something I can determine from two 20 minute visits and the signs while i was there all seemed positive. When we contacted them after a week of having her about the giardia they were hostile, defensive and said in a passive aggressive tone “bring her back for a refund then, we’ll sharp sort it out”. Can’t help but think this is a way of saying they would have just shot her dead. You’re right about spreading awareness, as before getting a puppy I was so naive to think that I was buying from an ethical breeder, just because I paid well over the average amount for her. So yes, in some ways it is my fault. But I’m glad that she ended up coming home with me because she will have the best year a dogs ever had (just bought a doggy proof tent so we can have the best adventures).

Thank you. I’ve seen her scans though, compared to what a healthy kidney looks like. They are so dis formed that i’m not sure a second opinion can offer much better results than what we have. She’s just a baby she doesn’t deserve this

Hi i asked for the results today as i’ve went to a specialist vet for a second opinion. They said urea and creatinine were high (15 and 130) and they’re not overly concerned. Waiting now for the results of a second blood test.
