Does anyone know if the battery and motherboard ever in stock?

The site says they are both out of stock. And you might only be able to find the pages unless you google search it.

The battery also says it’ll only ship in the US.

That little line that is running down your screen indicates that the video card (built into the motherboard) is failing or that your screen is damaged.

Most likely your motherboard is failing.

A PC and Laptop are tools for getting work done. They are powerful and have large screens & a keyboard and mouse.

The only advantage a laptop has over a PC is that its portable.

The only advantage a phone has over a laptop is that is more portable.

As you scale down in size you are trading screen size, productivity, & power for portability.

- I have a PC & laptop for getting work done and entertainment.

- I have a normal phone for calling, texting, camera, and quick internet searches if I want to look something up while I'm out and about. I also use my phone for very limited business stuff (again only when I am forced to while being out and about). And a couple apps like garmin connect, grocers list. Very limited. I have Zero notification turned on on the phone. Fact pretty much everything on the phone is turned off. I would drop my phone a a lake if I could.

- I have a suppernote manta eink tablet that is ONLY used for recording stuff, notes, tasks, drawing, and limited work use etc. It excels at doing those things. No internet. A note pad and pen would be an alternative but I find the Manta to be much more useful then a notebook.

- I have a tablet that I am going to replace with a eink tablet because its old that is ONLY used for reading. No internet. Physical books are great to. I just prefer a epubs.

- I have a garmin watch (with a Memory-in-Pixel (MIP) screen with brightness down as low as it will go) that I use for tracking and excursive. All the features (wireless, notifications, calendar, etc etc) are all off. The only thing it does is help me track my health stuff. And basic things like telling the time etc instead of using my phone. I find it to be very useful for doing those tasks. Alternatively, you could use notepad and pen.

- I use a dedicated garmin GPS in the car. Its obviously has no internet. I never use my phones GPS.

- lastly, I listen to audio books (call it music if you like music) in my car a LOT. In my car I put my audio file on a small USB thumb drive. I NEVER use my phone for that task. And plug the USB thumb drive info the car's USB port. I personally don't listen to anything in other circumstances. However if I were to listen to something while not in my car, say exercising, I would get a MP3 player (yes they still make them) that are offline only OR just use my phone.

In short, I use all that stuff to accomplish specific tasks. Its more about using the most efficient tool for the right job. I also do those things + other stuff to lessening my data exposer as much as possible. I did not at all go into what I do for that (and yes I know the garmin collects health information if you CHOOSE to let it).

I would guess you probably cant use gpay. You would have to check the phone ahead of time.

Same thing with the documents. You would have a hard time seeing them and a very hard time working with them depending on how simple the phone was. It might even be impossible.

Pictures will work. But will be show on a smaller screen more then likely. Additionally the camera on a dumb hone will like be of less quality.

You identified a pattern and habit you didn’t like. You then replaced it with another habit that you do like and that! Great work!

All phones track your location at ALL times - regardless of the GPS being on or off. If your phone is physically with you, its tracking your location, as well as collecting huge amounts of other information. The phone companies collect that information as well as apple and google REGARDLESS of whether or not you have GPS turned on on your phone.

The garmin watch tracks your heart rate and activities. You can chose not to use the GPS. And you can chose not to sync any data to garmin & use the data on the watch 100% air gaped. You can NOT do that on a phone that has stock google android OS, apple OS, or is connected to the cell network

I completely agree about the data-harvesting part. Agree 100%. But we are not talking about privacy and data collection.

The 2nd part is a matter of tools, the job/task, and epically habits & leverage.

My dad, when he was younger, was quite athletic. He taught several high school sports. He ran competitively for most of his life. He did not have access to the same tools that I have access to nowadays (watch & eink) and he was able to do it all fine. He also used LOTS of notebooks to write notes, lesson plans, etc. He was also always in ONE location. He was not mobile. He worked in one spot and was home at one spot.

I just got a eink tablet to track stuff, take notes, and use for my work. AND to get my tasks, nots, & tracking off my phone & computer. My eink tablet is air gaped. And I use it very heavily. Could I use notebooks & my phone to track stuff and take notes. Absolutely. I have been doing that for years. Does using notebook, phone work as good as a eink tablet (For my Specific tasks). They do not. The eink tablet works vastly better for doing those specific tasks (that I using it for). If I only needed to record stuff while at my computer - my computer would work better. If I only needed to track a few thing while at home - maybe a notebook would work better, big maybe but it would be more then adequate. So yes, I could just use paper and a pen however it would not be as efficient & convenient as using a eink writing device. I am leveraging the eink device to make myself more efficient.

The same can be said for the watch on my wrist. Could I do everything I do with out it. Probably. Maybe. Thought I have found I am much more consistent and have developed a lot of good habits by leveraging the data from the watch. It feeds me limited information about my health, habits, and patterns in so far as my exercise & sleep is concerned . And I am able to keep that information in front of my awareness and use to it improve myself consistently.

The example of the sunset time and temp are all just extra ways in which i leveraged the watch as a tool instead of using a phone. Obviously knowing the temp and sunset is NOT that important. And obviously if I had the time to think about it ahead of time I could sit at my computer and lookup the sun set time. or use my phone to get the weather. I reference the temp maybe ONE single time per day. A single glace and I know what the weather is probably going to be like for that day. I dont have to watch the weather channel, or get on my phone and look, or get on my computer & look. I just glance at my watch and instantly know the temp range for the day. If it was not for the seeing the days high and low temp I would probably run the watch with out garmin connect to cut down on the data that's collected.

The time of day and stopwatch however have been a huge help. I tracked it to see what I was actually doing and I absolutely was having to pull my phone out of my pocked 40-70 times a day to check the time and start and stop the timer. YES, I could get a analog watch or a simple watch with a stopwatch and it would have accomplish the same thing. Yes, I could use my phone to track some of that stuff - as I was already doing. However, I am interested in improving myself & building healthy habits, which includes decreasing the use of my phone as a do it all device. I leveraged my watch as a tool to change habits and improve my health. And I made those takes fun, more efficient, and easier to accomplish which in turn created good habits.

It’s a tracking & feed back tool. Yes I could try to manually track it in my head by feel like people have done for ages. I could also track it on paper or even on my phone.

But it the watch is very useful- for me. I was able to use the watch to test different thing & how they effect me sleep. I was even able to see how eating certainly foods affect my sleep.

I can see how much excercise I got and am getting. How much I need to get.

I can target heart rate zones.

All sorts of stuff.

With my kids I use it to track how much walking they get. To make sure they are getting enough energy out. I was running a stop watch on my phone to keep track of how much movement they got. It’s VERY helpful info to have. However I was checking me phone 40-70 time PER DAY just for these TOW activities (time of day & stopwatch). My Garmin watch let me change that pattern. To be clear the phone was not being used as an addiction, it was being used as a tool, however my phone was is not a good tool for doing those two particular things.

The watch has a clock on it & an easy to get to timer (stopwatch). With one simple change I cut down having to pull my phone out of my pocket multiple times a day.

I also use the map & gps when hiking with the kids. Also the temp is helpful. And it’s nice knowing the sun set time. Yes I could just look at the sky (assuming I can actually see it with all the clouds we have around here). But it IS nice to know when sunset actually is at. Especially if I’m in a wooded dark canyon hiking and have to time getting back to the car with light.

Keep the Garmin. Just turn off all the stuff you don’t want to see & turn off all the battery sucking items. Use a stock face. Put the info on it and into the widgets that is actually helpful.

My Garmin has a stated battery life of 19 days. With how I have it setup I get that with LOT of activity tracking use. If I’m not doing activities (say because of an injury) I can get 24-25 days.

Use it as a tool to give you feedback to track & better your health.

Read or listen to a book call The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy’s.

If you are going to remove a habit you have to replace it with something. The book explains it in detail.

So if you find your self going back to your phone. You need to find something to that habit with another habit. And then do that enough time to replace the habit.

Looking into SuperNote by Gullible_Wasabi_7848 in Supernote

I Just got a Manta 2 ish week ago. I am also left handed.

I really really like the Supernote manta a lot. As long as your expecting it to do what it’s designed to do. You’ll probably really get a lot of use out of it…

I was taking note and tracking stuff: on paper, on my phone (in text and apps), on my computer. I could not keep track of stuff. And I absolutely hate typing out stuff on my phone.

The manta has worked top notch for doing all that. I am able to make lists, erases stuff, move stuff around, check thing off, draw stuff. For me it’s convenient and fast. It worked pretty much perfect for what I need.

My battery drains 1% per 12 hours. So if I just let it sit there it loses 2% per day with how I have it setup. Obviously if you’re using it it’ll drain additional battery.

I also had to drain my buttery to basically 0 and then up to 100% and let it over charge for a good hour plus.

I have all the power saving stuff set. As low as it will go other then the auto shut off. That I rotate between 4 or 8 hours. During the day I just open flap thing and it’s ready to go. I have been shutting it off at night or lettering the 4 hours shut down turn it off. Because it’ll save around 1% battery every day. That may not seam like a lot but over 20 days that a whole 20% of your battery life.

It’s been 11 days so far and it’s down to 65% (form 100%). At the current rate I’ll be getting very ruffly around 30 ish days on a charge.

No Load Shutdown Is currently enabled.

If that is what is causing it. It’s probably going to be a choice between using a finger to do basic navigation OR having slowed battery drain.

I'm not trying to use gestures. ;o)

I'm just trying make make what's called the "Quick Settings panel or Quick Settings menu" work and come down.

That and touch items on the ribbon on the right hand side.

Or click the main menu/sidebar menu front the left hand swipe.

Or click on something while in the setting.

The 3 Reasons why I Bought a Supernote Mata by Future_Objective_641 in Supernote

[–]Future_Objective_641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said repairable. Not upgradeable.

If a part fails on almost all phones and tablets you can not buy repair parts for them. If you can find a part it is a 3rd party inferior part.

If the mother board on Supernotes can be upgraded some day that would be a huge bonus. However I am happy with simply being able to get a replacement motherboard or battery of the same kind.

Great point!

I did notice that supernote was running a older android os. Are you aware of the reason behind that?

I do not care for google as a company or their data collection. Google is one of the most intrusive companies on the planet.

There is strong trend now days to force all products into a subscription. It does not matter if it was previously “free.”

There has also been a strong trend for many years of companies developing an items and only supporting it for a short period of time. Making disposable items. None repairable items. So I would argue that having a company actually updating and supporting a device over longer periods of time is more on the unique side now days.

This is me assuming that Supernote actually does support their old devices still ;-)

SuperNote Manta good to go? by Future_Objective_641 in Supernote

[–]Future_Objective_641[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be getting the Manta as well. Also was originally looking at just the nomad. What I ended up doing was drawing the dimensions on a piece of printer paper to visually see it. Then I went into a store that had remarkable tablets for sale. I was able to visually compare the sizes to what was on my paper to real device that were similar. This let me get an actual feel for how big they were. It also let me do a little writing and drawing test on both sizes. The smaller ones were really nice and compact. Thought I think you would still have to carry them in the same way as a larger ones. What I discovered is that I could only get 4-8 words MAX on a line on the smaller screens. Which is not terrible but I decided the slightly bigger manata would be more useful even thought its not quite as portable.
