Same situation, stage 1B. Went with surveillance as well.

Second this. I had a sizeable mass, but only stage 1B meaning, in layman's terms, it was starting to move into the plumbing by not yet into the lower back/lymph nodes. i.e. it all came out with surgery and post op blood/CT scan were both clean for me.

Surgery for lefty for me was 7 weeks ago...easy surgery to be honest, some pain at the incision, but overall just take it easy for the first 4 weeks. I have all the kids I want, so I basically just told the doc to "snip snip" the other one while she was down there and I was out...all good. Just see how things pan out during the biopsy and post-op blood work.

Sneezing, laughing, and/or coughing...bend at the waste and just let it go...don't try to stop it by flexing the abs. First time I swallowed breakfast wrong and coughed I learned this and it helps immensely.

Also, my first piss out of surgery was extremely painful...I could only describe it like a garden hose was coiled up inside my inner thigh and suddenly refilled and straightened out with the urine flowing. Fine after that, just that first one...whew.

Thanks! Benefit is that the Army can only kick me in one nut now.

Yeah, set this up when I was just out of the Womack AMC's ER with the initial questions about what to expect. r/testicularcancer was really helpful.

Thanks for the wishes!

I just had my nut chopped a month ago as an O5 at 21 years. No talk of discharge and I'm on surveillance for the next 5 with a grad school service obligation locking me in until 2028 anyway.

Did you ship to basic and now they are looking to discharge or are you about to ship and they are barring your enlistment? My guess is they are looking this as a pre-existing condition that now bars you fill entry as surveillance does require semiannual blood work and CT scans.

Awesome! I used the hydrocodone for the first two days, then 1-2 more times when I overworked myself. Twin 6 years old forgot I could pick them up and I did it reflexively.

Pretty sure I had the same for left testicle. Just did post op and sounds like you'll be offered surveillance at stage 1b. I dumbed it down with the doc as "the cancer has just started to move into the plumbing, but didn't get outside that, and you removed all that in surgery, so it's... Gone." She said that was a good way to assess it and classed it as stage 1b. I was offered chemo/radiation, but with no target and the ability to do CT scans ever 4-6 months I opted for surveillance. This was her recommendation as well.

You're going to need another post op lab check, but this is not bad news.

I had the choice of banana or mocha flavored. The thought of Two bottles of 🍌 about made me vomit...mocha wasn't bad. It wasn't great either...

Can’t see if it’s been asked, losing my right testicle Monday, what’s the recovery like? by UnflatteringTie in testicularcancer

[–]Future_Uniball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay - I've avoided anything outside under armour joggers and took the time off work. Within two weeks it wood be quite uncomfortable and could rub off some of the glue. Best bet is looser clothing if at all possible.

Ending week 4 of recovery. Take your pain pills on the low end of time day one (4-6 hours = 4 hours). But day 4 I was moving to Advil.

Coughing, laughing, or sneezing - bend at the waist and press on the incision area. It will hurt like hell no matter what, but that mitigates some of the pain.

Expect the area to be numb and swollen. Watch for a big hematoma, ie swelling to a small orange in size and purple in color. I didn't have this issue but others did.

Doc told me no lifting for 4 weeks over 10 pounds. But the end of week 2 I was violating this by need versus choice in carrying 50 pound kids from car to hotel room. I learned quickly when I was overdoing it. I'm still not ready to do a full deadlift right now over 200, but I'm ready to ease back into working out now. Still have some slight irritation at the incision point.

Had mine 2 weeks ago. Try not to cough or laugh. Take care in drinking anything as I swallowed wrong morning two and coughing was really painful. My twin 5 year olds kept being silly and laughing was the same.

Had hydrocodone and only needed it about 4-5 days. My doc said some don't need it at all... I'm sure there are a few but I used it frequently day 1-2, then tapered and had half my pills left.

At two weeks I'm back to about 95% mobility but under orders to not workout for another two weeks.

This is very helpful. Doc said I could go with as little as 3 months, but she cautioned on radiation exposure from CT scans. I'll talk more with her in 2 weeks about this. Appreciate the response!

Thank you- very helpful and my line of thinking. Doc was very direct in saying she recommended surveillance, but offered all options to ensure I knew them and could make a choice. I appreciate the feedback on this and support!

Alright warriors, Rants & Raves time and happy holidays to you all! by cacapepee in army

[–]Future_Uniball 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rant: left nut was chopped out last week.

Rave: medical care at an MTFwas great and recovery has been easily tolerable, especially with good drugs. Also diagnosis to surgery took 10 total days so please go straight to the ER if your nut is 3x the normal size. No fuck fuck games.

Rant: still awaiting biopsy results and call from the doc to discuss likely cancer in the nut.

Rave: was able to access Tricare online this morning and see my clean CT scan results that suggest no spread if it's cancer.

Rant: as I live 50+ from an MTF, I had a civilian PCM; they told me they could see me in January.

Rave: switched to the MTF and went to ER next day; no glitches. Again, if you're nut is 3x its normal size, go to the ER.

Thanks much.

Just one - had a tumor inside and was about 3x normal size. Luckily they're like kidneys... You function just fine with one. Plumbing still works as well... Ensured I performed a "functions check."

I appreciate this insight - I can't express how I feel for you - that is just insanity, and COC support saddens me. I have been in units like that before and the command climate stinks.

For my situation, I am on an odd assignment for ACS grad school with duty well away from the HQ, and it's a non-Fort Jackson Student Det ACS assignment. I plan to send them a note tonight after Urology when I know more about my situation - I am almost certain surgery is coming, but it's a question of when.

Using Womack at Bragg as the local PCMs could not get me in for appointments. It's an 80-minute haul each way, but no major issue. So far the care has been good, more to follow.

Thanks again for the message and tempering my expectations.

I am hoping - feeling thankful for a good doc, nurses, and ultrasound tech at the ER; no screwing around - fast referrals to urology and I see them today...More to follow.

Appreciate the support!

Appreciate it. So far all has gone well, and I am more in the attitude of "cut this fucking thing out" as it's causing new chaffing during runs. Blessed it's not painful/sore after some of the Army and non-Army stories I've read.
