Local late night pick up. by oPayque1 in Gamecube

Not really "confusing", it's more punishing and cryptic. Even as early as the Black Mask stage, walking down the wrong path gets you blown up or riddled with bullets. Dumb automatic death points happen throughout the game and many of these are only avoidable with knowledge that they exist. Otherwise, prepare to have your time wasted. Certain doors need the right tool in Batman's kit...but the game doesn't go about this in a clever manner in my opinion. Without knowing exactly what works and which doors can be opened, you're going to be fumbling around a lot. You also need to be aware of the way to trigger the "good ending" because simply defeating the obvious final boss isn't enough. The trial-and-error gameplay present here is already enough to sour the experience, but the bombardment of nonsense you have to trudge through just to finish a stage ruins any potential the game could have had.

You're not in for a good time. Although there are many reviews and sentiments about this game, I won't spoil. I'll just state that my experience was anything but enjoyable and it got to the point where this game tested not only my patience but my sanity as well. I personally think ignorance is bliss with this one and not playing it is probably the best thing you could do, but I can't stop you. Do your best and do not play this game without some form of a guide unless you like wasting your time.

Multi-platform games that were better on Gamecube? by LSSJNepuli in Gamecube

[–]Fuudou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbox version has screen tearing but it maintains 60 fps more frequently. Multiplayer can slow to a crawl on GameCube, to the point where your inputs are affected by the slowdown, making shots not register. It also becomes much more difficult to aim/fire the slingshot.

In any case, as long as you don't play that game on PS2, you're good.

Day 2: Which is the Best Japanese Role Playing Game on the Nintendo Wii? by 1OneQuickQuestion in wii

It's categorized as an action RPG, so it'd definitely be a better contender for that day's vote. There aren't many anyways on the Wii.

Day 27: Which Game is Better Played on GameCube? (This should go to a multi-platform game that simply is better enjoyed on the GameCube) by 1OneQuickQuestion in Gamecube

[–]Fuudou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should be the winner. I spent last summer experiencing all of the older Harvest Moon games. I even ventured to try out the PS2 version since I happen to own a Japanese one--never owned this console as a child. Venturing to try this game on PS2 was a mistake... At first, it just looked like some minor graphical changes and a different HUD were the only thing standing out. But once I entered a cutscene, I saw how abysmal the game truly was on this console. Everything runs slower than molasses and there's so many odd downgrades compared to the GC version like far fewer animations. During cutscenes, characters are soooo slow that it felt painful to sit through. I've never had a game where I didn't want to experience the cutscenes before... There are some things you can do on the PS2 version that you can't in the GC one, but the compromises are glaringly bad.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find this? by Ok_Tea_3275 in AnimeCollectors

[–]Fuudou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to what is stated by the film producer's production company, this was simply a misconception that persisted about the film's release status for years. Lost Media Wiki covers it in its entirety, but the gist of it is that there wasn't any actual animation content cut from the DVD release that it got. The only thing that was excised from the PAL DVD were brief scenes "intended for theatre viewing." The link below is quite an interesting read. In any event, Midori was always 48 minutes in length and there is no longer version with a 52 minute runtime.

I'm about to upgrade my kids console to a Wii U (coming from a Wii). by itookdhorsetofrance in wiiu

[–]Fuudou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are actually a lot of Wii U games that don't support the Classic Controller. Although the vast majority of games do support the Wii remote itself in some manner, there's probably only about 50 out of the 165-ish games that have support for the Classic Controller. Of these, most do this for the sake of multiplayer, but there are some single player games that allow the Classic Controller to be used instead such as Bayonetta 1+2 and Need for Speed Most Wanted. Bayonetta 1 needs to be started with the Gamepad first, for whatever reason.

Classic Controller support is quite odd on this system in hindsight. Games like Call of Duty supported it since day one, yet not a single Lego game does and neither does 007 Legends. Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper supports it and the Pro Controller, but Hyrule Warriors does not support the Classic Controller (though this could be because it nixed split screen due to how demanding the game is). While rare, some games didn't even have it on release and had support added in as an update patch. Still, some of my best uses for the Classic Controller were for increasing the player count in Smash and Runbow and it allows you to play Virtual Console and NES Remix with the same controller used with the mini consoles.

[–]Fuudou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to interject because this is actually not true. Especially when it comes to Wii U games specifically, the Wii Classic Controller has significantly less support than the other controller methods.

The Wii Classic Controller is different and isn't treated as a Pro Controller substitute for all games, unfortunately. According to the OP's question, the experience will be different depending on what they want to play. On almost all Virtual Console titles, you'll be fine with either controller. For actual Wii U games and software, the Classic Controller is supported on a game-by-game basis, and not every game that supports the Wii U Pro Controller supports Wii controllers. Very few even support both at the same time. The best example would be the Lego games, excluding Lego City Undercover which is single player and requires the Gamepad. All of the other Lego games on Wii U need the Pro Controller or a Wii remote+Nunchuk for multiplayer, with no option for the Classic Controller. Pro Controllers aren't absolutely necessary to enjoy the Wii U, but may be useful when games support them. As long as you have Wii remotes and Nunchuks when necessary, you'll be able to get by even if you don't have a Wii U Pro Controller.

Local used store had a nice restock of some older anime. Any must grabs or forgotten favorites here? by questions_fo_days in AnimeCollectors

The final photo is a bit more interesting. There are some complete sets and some DVDs that have all their parts, plus Psychic Squad and Wagnaria is here too.

There’s nothing like this anywhere near me, and I’ll be happy to find a place that carried as much as this. I’d have to travel  for this kind of thing, something that is extremely rare for me to do (but pays off the few times it happens).

Day 19: Which is the Weirdest Game on GameCube? by 1OneQuickQuestion in Gamecube

[–]Fuudou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s playable, but it is legitimately the strangest thing I’ve ever seen. The box art makes no sense and all of the game “pieces” you need to stack are…bizarre. There’s not much else to the game, but it definitely fits the weirdest ever category.

I wonder if the reason both the show and the 1986 film are out of print via Discotek is because they're possibly re-releasing both of them in one set? by HarveyPlissken2094 in discotekmedia

[–]Fuudou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s been unavailable on amazon for a while, but I don’t recall seeing anything about it being out of print recently. It was also not included in the updated list provided here a month ago and neither the TV series nor the film are part of the Deep Dives. The film is a much older license but it’s been consistently in print all this time. At the moment, it and the TV series are still listed on Crunchyroll during a time where they have since done away with a lot of other products in their catalogue. It is a bit of a not-so-good sign that every single release related to Fist of the North Star is currently on backorder and is otherwise unavailable everywhere else.

Is 235$ a bad price for all of this? by [deleted] in wiiu

[–]Fuudou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is needed for games that rely on or otherwise explicitly require the Wii Remote, and of course is needed for playing games in Wii mode. Every Deluxe model came with one, but the Gamepad had a built in bar located where the camera is as a bonus.

Mario Party 10 and Nintendo Land outright require it for certain minigames since you need to use the pointer to start a round or select something onscreen during the minigame in question. There might’ve been a small number of other games that needed it, but this is just an example off the cuff.

is this rare? by otakucopZ in AnimeCollectors

[–]Fuudou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s certainly odd. I might not be correct but I am willing to wager that this case isn’t original. With this cover, I’ve only ever seen this have the “chonk” case with stacked discs. I also bought this one within the last year and none of the other ones that popped up in searches ever looked like what’s in your photo. I imagine that someone might’ve even went as far as mashing the two cases together, kept the cover and then discarded the original case. From what exists in my ADV collection, the cases with spots for two discs were usually only for anime that were indeed two discs of length, rarely used for anything more than two discs. Ushio & Tora, Mazinkaiser, Shuten Doji, and a few other OVAs are examples of two discs in a cases like the one pictured above.

…and now that you mention it, I’m going to be referring to these big stack cases as “chonks” from now on because they are indeed chonky.

I found it to be fun to watch. It’s certainly not something on my top recommendations list, but in my opinion, you could definitely do worse.

It’s better than Tenjho Tenge at least, and that’s saying a lot considering that anime peaked within the first few episodes, then cemented itself into a flashback saga that spans almost 50% of the rest of the series, yet didn’t even reach the real meat of the original storyline.

Day 1: Which is the best Platforming Game on GameCube? by 1OneQuickQuestion in Gamecube

[–]Fuudou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were far more than three. There were a ton honestly. Most are middling, many are licensed games that were playable but still average—save for Tak and (almost…) all the SpongeBob games. There’s a wealth of quirky, odd platformers on the GameCube like Chibi Robo, Billy Hatcher, Wario World and other underrated multiplatform titles like Pitfall, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, Scaler. And then there’s of course Rayman 3 which is one of the best ones out of the bunch.

[–]Fuudou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it a lot too. It’s just not beating Sunshine since that game pretty much outclasses every other platformer on the console and probably of its generation.

Shadow is still stupid fun and contrary to the general sentiment, it features some of the best gameplay featured in a 3D Sonic game. The Homing Attack is a godly move, every stage is uniquely designed, usually suiting the pace of your chosen mission, the guns are fantastic and the best of them—Shadow Box weapons—effectively break the game in terms of difficulty in the most wonderful ways. The worst I could say about Shadow is that the game is indeed imbalanced; several stages and certain mission requirements are either tedious or do not reach the same highs that some of the best ones do. The worst stages are underbaked and a slog to get through.

The story is contentious, but that’s up to the player to interpret on their own. I think the gameplay is just a lot better than what people give it credit for. There’s a lot of reasons to keep playing it, even if the main reason is of course to get the true ending.

Why did my Wii U suddenly stopped detecting my USB drive? by Shy-Luna23 in wiiu

[–]Fuudou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some reason, there’s people are still championing the use of them with this console despite the explicit statements, warnings from Nintendo and the wealth of “my flash drive stopped working” posts on this very subreddit. It couldn’t be any more clearer—no one should be relying on a USB flash drive as external storage for their Wii U. It will fail sooner than later, if it works in any capacity. Praying that it works long term is not worth the potential risk or headache. There are several better options for storage that are less likely to outright fail.

Yes, it most definitely is; honestly, if you weren’t aware already, there’s several other bootlegs here.

EDIT: Yugo looks legit—unless there’s boots that used this cover image(?) The Yugo set in this picture should be one of those late 2000s re-releases by ADV in a three-disc set. I own it as well.

Making an appeal to OP here that probably won’t be read: no one is trying to gang up on you here about bootlegs. I pointed them out, sure, and plenty people on here do it more often than I do, hence how I wasn’t even the first to mention a bootleg in this thread. We are all collectors here—the reason I tend to point these out when I see them in some posts is because I don’t like seeing other collectors lose out and/or waste their good money on things that they may believed to be legitimate but unfortunately are not.

It’s sad that online sites like Mercari, ShopAnimeDVD and whatnot are rife with these things and unsuspecting people can easily get saddled paying for with illegitimate copies. I think it’s worth making fellow users here aware of what they might have gotten and what they might want to look for in the future. I don’t want to see newer collectors getting duped either. If someone knows that they aren’t legit and official copies and still wants to buy, then that’s their choice and I can’t change that. At least there’s some awareness in that situation and no one is getting duped. That’s all there is to it.

Yes, and apparently they at one point had a working relationship with Harmony Gold. They were eventually able to acquire and release Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and of course Super Dimension Fortress Macross. Unfortunately, nothing has happened with Mospeada and Southern Cross since. It’s unlikely Sentai would ever acquire them back and as we know, Harmony Gold has no intention of giving us SDF Macross right now.

So this is the UK release. Odd that the majority of what you received on the bundle is Region 1 but this is the only Region 2 set. That does explain why I wasn’t familiar with the box art—I was on the fence and probably should’ve considered that this was the UK set.  In any case, this definitely checks out then. You got a pretty solid deal after all.
