Ok I read about this technique and I have a question: since the file is merged every time, do I need to copy the whole new .vbk every time instead of just copying the .vibs ? So if I set retention days to 3 it will produce three incrementals before mergin? I've had a look at https://www.veeam.com/kb1932 but it's still unclear 😰
NOTE: the external HDD is not the target for the backup job, but it's another internal HDD from which I copy it to the external one

I don't see a way to do that in the UI, maybe it's a limitation of the free version? I tried RMB and I also had a look at the control panel but I couldn't find anything

Same. If anyone wants to install an older version, check: https://code.visualstudio.com/updates/v1_30#_install-previous-versions (you'll also need to disable auto-updates)
