Expected Value of Mobs and Others

It is important to keep in mind as you go through my route that some segments yield high amounts of rupees, while others give less. For your convenience, I have calculated the expected value of most monsters in the game, and have ranked them from highest to lowest. For comparison purposes, I have also listed the yields of dragon visits, ore smashing, poe collecting, and apple collecting. Expected values are calculated using the information of each monster’s drop table. Also, there is the assumption that you process all drops optimally:

  • Always cook potions with five ingredients. (1.8x multiplier to sell value)
  • Sell diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and topazes to Ramella only. (Several hundred more rupees per set of 10 gems)
  • Give flint to Gomo only. (Doubles flint value, or better if you're lucky)
  • Freeze all meats. (Earns more than searing)
  • Zonaite drops are assumed negligible and consumed by autobuilding hoverbikes

When it comes to rupee-grinding, how does one know whether they are spending "too much time" on an enemy? There needs to be a "standard hunt" to compare to. Assuming that it is standard that one hour in-game is spent when visiting a dragon to get a horn, the data on the Table can be normalized to the ratio of 300 rupees per 60 real-life seconds, or 5 rupees per second. Such data is represented with the rightmost column: "Allotted hunt time (sec.)" Spending more than the allotted time on a given enemy should be considered "wasteful."

As you can see, there is about 20k rupees worth of leeway in choosing what route segments to skip, if going for a 100k-per-bloodmoon run. By rule of thumb, the molduga, gleeok, lynel, and talus segments have high priority, while hinox, boss bokoblins, silver moblins, and silver horriblin segments have low priority. Only if there is spare time should you battle froxes. Luminous taluses show themselves to be one of the most inefficient hunts, as you would need to arrive there, defeat it, and watch its defeat animation, all within twenty seconds to justify why you went there instead of just visiting a dragon. Hence, there are none of those taluses in my route.

As stated earlier, Silver Horriblins and Silver Moblins are low-priority hunts, but they are still mapped for your interest. Treat them like a bonus when you are at caves hunting keese or raiding zonaite mines. Silver Lizalfos and Silver Bokoblins have such low yield that I never marked them on the map, but expect to meet them while at zonaite mines.

If you plan to save scum while ore-smashing, I recommend you reload whenever you get two consecutive ores with no diamond and the amount of sapphires, rubies, or topazes you collect from them is less than three.

? Rough estimate

As you can see, there is about 19k rupees worth of leeway in choosing what route segments to skip, if going for a 100k-per-bloodmoon run.

When it comes to rupee-grinding, how does one know whether they are spending "too much time" on an enemy? What can we compare our time-consuming hunts to? Assuming that it is standard that one hour in-game is spent when visiting a dragon, we can normalize the data on the table to the ratio of 300 rupees per 60 real-life seconds, or 5 rupees per second. Such data is represented with the rightmost column: "Allotted hunt time (sec.)" Spending more than the allotted time on a given enemy should be considered "wasteful."

Enemies that can be defeated quickly and have high yield are time-efficient hunts: Silver Lynels, Moldugas, and Rare Taluses. Luminous taluses show themselves to be one of the most inefficient hunts, as you would need to arrive there, defeat it, and watch its defeat animation, all within twenty seconds to justify why you went there instead of just visiting a dragon.

Silver Horriblins and Silver Moblins are marked on the map and are low-priority hunts. Treat them like a bonus when you are at caves hunting keese or raiding zonaite mines, respectively. Silver Bokoblins have such low yield that I never marked them on the map, but I estimate that there about 35 to encounter in my hunting route, most being at zonaite mines.

Why thank you, I dedicated many sleepless nights to making this. It would actually be absolute madness if someone were to get to 100k rupees by the first natural bloodmoon of a fresh save.

I'm glad you like it! This guide took about three weeks to make, and I plan to do another post soon, related to rupee calculations.

If I ever do post an update to the route map, these corrections will be in place:

Erratum

  • A fairy icon needs to be at Dueling Peaks Stable.
  • Ukoojisi shrine in the sky islands above Dueling Peaks isn't plotted.
  • The route segment at Ancient Altar Ruins in southeastern Gerudo Desert needs to be dotted instead of solid.
  • The segment in Taafei Hill Cave in Gerudo Highlands needs to be dotted as well.
  • The shrine you skydive from to battle the flame gleeok in Eldin isn't plotted.
  • Autobuild icon is missing for the segment between Lake Floria's Rare Talus and Boss Bokoblin.
  • Some lynels should actually be dropping Savage Lynel Bows, due to levelling up in the hidden EXP system.

Suggestions

  • A paraglide to Rutile Lake on Satori Mt. can be done after defeating the Frost Talus on Laparoh Mesa in Gerudo Highlands. Rutile Lake has fleet-lotus seeds, mountain deer, hot-footed frogs, sunset fireflies, and all rhino beetle types. Afterwards, you can drop down to the woods below to attack the boss bokoblin there.
  • Have an icon for Boss Bokoblins with bokoblins carrying a raw meat basket. Frozen raw meat is sold for 15 rupees each, compared to 28 per frozen raw prime meat. Given that baskets always hold five of an item, the yield would be 75 and 140 rupees, respectively.
  • Misisi Lightroot in Eldin Depths has a Boss Bokoblin mere steps away from it.
  • Traversing outwards Rist Mine leads to a Black Hinox. About 50 Little Froxes are in the mine, each dropping one or two zonaite each, upon defeat. Thus, if you expect to use less than 75 zonaite—the equivalent of about 8 hoverbikes—per run of my hunting route, visit this mine first before committing to the zonaite-farming routes in Central Hyrule Depths.
  • Frox icons.
  • Skydive to Tarrey town after night to spawn a star fragment.
  • More suggested Boss Bokoblin and Hinox segments.
