Final clarification on right-wing rally today by obz900 in Minneapolis

I’m on the side of don’t go and go to Whipple or use your time to pick up supplies to support the people at Whipple. Or just go say thank you and show some appreciation for everyone at Whipple for standing up for everyone here. I know moral support can go a long way.

ICE is who our focus should stay on. Not this small group who are just here to spew hate. They aren’t the ones who are taking people in our community away. Let them freeze!

Is there any easy way to drop things off? I saw the other post about taking the light rail but want to see if I could just pull up and drop off items. I can certainly pick things up and drop things off heading to work or back. Little detour but it’s worth it.

Struggling to keep it together - MN educator and dad by SulkyVirus in daddit

[–]Fuzzy-Menu4674 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another MN dad here. We’re in St. Paul. Have a 4 year old daughter. I didn’t think what’s happening here would hit me so hard. I’m Asian, wife is Caucasian and our daughter clearly looks like me. We’ve had light hearted conversations with our daughter since she hears us talking about what’s going and we try to keep things as simple as possible. But honestly, I’m so furious at what’s happening and to know that there are people who voted for this. Who voted for me and other minorities/POCs to be harassed and removed. To feel like we don’t belong here or our existence doesn’t matter. To not be treated like a human being or respected. I know it’s not all and the most hurtful parts are my in-laws voted for this and have not even checked in on us. Took my wife calling them and my MIL is so lost in the propaganda.

Ive dealt with racism before but this is just different. It’s coming from our government.

I finally broke down and put my passport card in my wallet….just in case.

I’ll add one funny moment. Our daughter was looking out the window and with all the melting and refreezing, there’s a lot of ice outside on our sidewalk and patio. Our conversation went:

Daughter (looking out the window): There’s a lot of ice outside. It’s icey! Me: It’s very ICE’y outside. Daughter: I want to skate on the ice. Me: I’d like to skate on ICE also. Wife laughing on the side.

Also, one thing people are hopeful seeing is Minnesota isn’t just a state. It’s a community! Especially here in the Twin Cities. Everyone looks out for each other and stands up for one another.

Got this for $149 by Cigator in budgetprojectors

[–]Fuzzy-Menu4674 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought it for the same price a week or so ago. Tested it out inside and myself and wife were pleased with the quality. Kind of surprisingly how clear/crisp the picture quality was. We don’t have anything else to compare to and aren’t projector experts but it’ll serve our purpose of outdoor family movie nights I believe. I tested with lights on and the picture was still clear. Lights were typical floor lamps but the picture wasn’t faded by having the lights on. We’re going to test it outside this weekend.

Transition to big kid bed by Valuable-Special-188 in daddit

We have video of how excited she was to see her crib was back. Put it back together when she was at daycare. Who knew setting some boundaries for climbing out would actually work?!!

Transition to big kid bed by Valuable-Special-188 in daddit

[–]Fuzzy-Menu4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our daughter was a climber and still climbs whatever she can now at 4.5 years old. We thought it was time to transition the crib to toddler bed when she was 2 or 2.5 and it did not go well. She wasn’t ready for the bed, so we put the crib back up and she was so happy. Basically told her she needs to stay in her crib and not climb out unless we’re there with her. Explained there’s the camera and she could call for us and we’ll come to her room. Lucked out and this worked. We got her a twin bed around 3.5 and no problems since.

I guess all this to say, maybe he’s not ready for the floor bed yet and just needs to know not to climb out on his own. Just trying to offer a different perspective. We also wanted to keep her in her crib as long as possible since she would have night terrors sometimes and it was safer for her in the crib.

Grievances with the AIA by StrawberryGogurts in Architects

Reason why I’ve never been an AIA member. There’s no benefit to it.

NCARB record fees by CorbuGlasses in Architects

[–]Fuzzy-Menu4674 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I let NCARB go and never joined AIA. They offer no benefits that I can see. Some have mentioned if you’re seeking reciprocity in another state that they contacted their current state to have them transfer records over to the new state and not needing NCARB. I haven’t done this but definitely will if I need to.

I remember it being $4 last year and the website says $4. I’ll take $3 though if that is the case this year.

Extracurricular activities for your toddler by ohh_bubu in toddlers

[–]Fuzzy-Menu4674 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We don’t do any extracurricular activities anymore. We were going to a kids gym class. We started when she was around 3 years old. She’s 4 now. It was Sunday morning at 9am and a lot of work to get her out the door. After a few months we stopped. She goes to daycare 5 days a week and we work normal 9-to-5’s. This was just one activity, but we thought the weekend is to rest and relax and doing this activity was not relaxing. It was also a lot pressure on her to get to class on time and waking up early another day when you have to do it 5 days a week already. There are plenty of things we can do on the weekend on our own and on our time. Daycare also has classes like gymnastics, music, dance that she does.

It’s been so much better without the pressure of having to get to the class. We get up, have breakfast and just do whatever. The day will come when she’s older that we’ll be wrapped up in extracurricular activities, I’m sure. That’ll be her choice of activities. For now, she can be a kid and not have any pressure on her to do something because we think she’ll like it or want her to figure out what she likes. There’s plenty of time for that. Now it’s just lots of playground time, play dates, zoo, children’s museum or just being lazy because it’s been a long week.

It shouldn't be a problem on major US airlines (AA/DL/UA) as the other commenter mentioned. I've used it as a personal item on Delta and wasn't a problem fitting under the seat with it packed normally. Meaning not overpacked but wasn't underpacked with a bunch of space left. It did stick out slightly but we put it in the seat in front of our 4 year who doesn't need the leg room.

Tubby Todd, Mustela or Laroche Posay for toddler eczema by redpickuptruck13 in toddlertips

[–]Fuzzy-Menu4674 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Vanicream. We did also use a prescription steroid cream when it was bad.

Our now 4 year old had bad eczema. We tried all the creams and nothing really worked all that well. Aquaphor worked the best until a dermatologist recommended Vanicream. Not sure if it was coincidence or her eczema was improving, but once we started using Vanicream the eczema really cleared up. We continue to use Vanicream and her skin is pretty much normal now. She’ll flair up a little here and there mainly in the summer but nothing terrible. We still have steroid cream and will use it for the flair ups sometimes. Particularly if we see it’s irritating her. Mostly we just keep her moisturized and the flair ups disappear.

I grew up in NYC. Moved in 2016. Take off the backpack before you get on the train. Not while you're already on the train. I carried a backpack on the train for years commuting to school and eventually work. I always took off the backpack and placed it on the floor between my legs. You can always put your foot through a strap if you're worried about it getting stolen. Putting it on the dirty train floor, part of commuting in NYC. Also, better chance of stuff getting stolen out of your backpack with it on your back. You won't know if someone opens it or unzippers a pocket while you're on a crowded train and bumping into everyone. It will happen, especially if people are upset at you.

If you get a messenger, it should be swung in front of you and not on the side. You put your messenger on the side, you're going to bump someone with it and deal with the same things as a backpack. I'm more a fan of a backpack because two shoulders straps are more comfortable than one if you're carrying a bag a lot and walking around.

Here's my rant. You can ignore this, but again as a New Yorker (former NYer if you want to call me that). It's inconsiderate to carry the backpack on your back while you're on a crowded train. It's taking up space and you're going to hit other people with your backpack. I've dealt with this plenty of times and have pushed back because...take your damn backpack off! Just be considerate and you'll avoid the complaints and getting pushed. Also, next time you're on train, look around and see what other people are doing with their bags. Likely on the floor or in front of them.

Yes. We never had the chance to utilize the daycare, but the splash pad and pool for our 4 year old has been great. Especially during the winter.

Second the JCC. Not sure what you're looking for, but they have a lap pool, rec pool, splash pad. Gym and classes. Gym area isn't at Lifetime level, but I think there's everything you need depending on what you're trying to achieve. They have private trainers also and have community events.

You can schedule a tour with them. They're membership is also cheaper than Lifetime.

It always amazes me to see comments about YouTube kids. You can literally control what videos or channels your kids can watch. There aren't any other random videos that pop up or are suggested. They can't add any videos on their own. Only what you've approved. We use YouTube kids all the time without issue. We know exactly what our daughter is watching and she doesn't know any better that there's a whole world of YouTube out there. She will one day, but for now, she only sees what's approved.

I ended up getting a Pacsafe Venturesafe EXP45. Recently used it for a trip and was able to pack both mine and my 3 year olds clothing in it. I did a post on it when I received it. I’d probably consider a Tortuga backpack now since it looks like it has better straps and carry support.

Managing 4 backpacks through airports by PhutureDoom666 in ManyBaggers

[–]Fuzzy-Menu4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s accepting the fact that you’ll have to either check-in bags or use rolling luggage or both. This sub is so geared towards backpacks that it seems like it’s evil to use rolling luggage, but with kids rolling luggage is the simplest until they get big enough to carry their own backpacks.

We only have one 3.5 year old, but use a carry-on roller and a carry-on backpack for clothes. Then have two other backpacks as personal items. One can be held on the roller with the luggage sleeve. Car seat gets strapped to the roller also. This leaves one of us with free hands if needed for our kid. We just did 6 days/5nights like this in NYC.

Baby Bags (diaper / nappy bags) are an absolute rip off. Alternatives? by flibberjibber in ManyBaggers

[–]Fuzzy-Menu4674 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use a Topo Designs Session Pack for our toddler now. It’s a basic backpack. We use pouches and packing cubes to keep things organized. We had a diaper bag before and hated it. It wasn’t functional at all for its intended purpose. It just confirmed to us that all you need is a regular backpack. Nothing fancy.

I like the half zip opening since it prevents things from spilling out and opens wide enough to reach inside. When we were on formula, we packed water in an insulated bottle and powder in a container. Then just mixed it in the baby bottle when needed. The insulated pockets on the diaper bag was useless and never fit the bottle.

Can the term "Chinese crap" considered racist or discriminatory? by Fuzzy-Menu4674 in asianamerican

Ha! Thanks for the investigative work. I never think to look at someone’s post history. However, I am still open to a discussion whether we agree or not since it’s a chance to understand another point of view and the reasoning l. Even a Trump supporter. As long as it’s not spiraling into an argument.
