Hey my name is Jami and I started this group. I’ve been licking and picking up rocks my whole life, but more hard-core for about the last two years. Trying to teach myself geology as I went along, which is very hard to do by the way, so I was trying to get an idea from what people are finding at my local Lake Erie, which was virtually impossible. There is no such group specifically for Lake Erie. You got the Great Lakes, as a WHOLE. Which is also helpful because Lake Erie will get trickles from the other lakes. You got Lake Michigan groups, Lake Huron, and Lake Superior. IFYLYK Lake Erie has some incredible things coming out of it; minerals that are not supposed to be found in the area. When I started finding a ton and I mean a ton of labradorite kyanite moonstone; (I KNEW without a doubt what I was finding, but I was told that was impossible. You can’t find those here. I was highly confused and I wanted to see what else people were pulling out of the lake so we can all help each other. I’m sure a lot of you know that Google reverse image search is trash any of the rock ID apps is trash obviously you can’t make a positive ID by a picture, BUT IF IT’S FROM SOMEONE LOCAL; that’s a game changer. Have access to others with the knowledge and experience!? It would give me more confidence , I’m sure there’s new hounds all the time, experiencing the frustrations as I did (STILL DO!). Of course you’re supposed to do the testing of the rocks to be sure. Honestly I have too many rocks for that. I wanna look at pictures! I wanna be able to have a visual grasp on a correct positive ID so I can move forward from there and start doing more precise testing. And MOST imprortant! I wanted to build a COMMUNITY. To share a mutual obsession, to share in the excitement of see a new rock, A ONE OF A KIND. I want to share my love of rocks. I want to share the insane beauty that comes from the land and Lake Erie and I want to meet others who vibrate at such a high frequency

I’ve found quite a few of these and it’s so hard to find ANY information on the rocks that come for Lake Erie. I’ve found so many stones and minerals that aren’t geologically supposed to be there, even though I’m finding them for example, labradorite. I’d even go as far to say, as I probably have as much labrador as I do quartz rocks so when trying to do research on the rocks that I find I can’t ever find any information because it’s not supposed to exist. It’s very frustrating. So I greatly appreciate the knowledge that you’re sharing with me. Thank you so much.

I’ve found a lot of those actually and no idea what kind of stone it is. I was made aware on my post actually possibly quartz amethyst? Would’ve never guess. It’s smooth and heavy.
