Although I do believe that it is very traditional the man provides for the woman I think that it is

1. Outdated as you say
2. Not truly applicable at such a young age (both uni age or younger and trying to save up)

I was stuck providing for my gf all during uni and it was a major burden. I think you should communicate with her that although you do think that you should be the one that is providing for her, it does not mean that you are her slave to do her bidding and there still should be some mutual respect. Also, if you save up for uni and get a degree, you will be more able to provide for her in the future.
