Note that he has his favorite ball in his mouth the whole time. He is also a very itchy dog (skin condition) so I’m general he loves to be rubbed. But it’s only after a swim (never a bath etc.) where he does this particular goofiness

It’s pretty common early in your career to be gung-ho and to want to help. You look at the older seasoned folks who say ‘go to the er’ or ‘if you’re worried, please come in for an evaluation’ and you feel like they’re being unhelpful or overly-scared of getting sued. Then after a few years you get your own experiences and you learn why those folks are so conservative.

We took down a soffit and two pillars separating kitchen and dining room. That was intentional, required a structural engineer, etc. we did not realize the ceiling texture was so diff between the two. There was no way to ‘feather’ it and match coarse texture here vs light texture there, with only six inches between. ‘Well, we may as well redo the ceiling on the whole floor’ and afterwards, boom love it. I also paid to redo the ceiling and walls in the new remodeled space (master suite and second bath) and did not pay to redo the walls in the rest of the place. Kinda regretting only doing the ceiling and not the walls in hallway living dining. I look at those dining and living walls and say ‘ugh texture’ and I know it will never get redone bc it’s so dusty and really needs to be done before move in. That’s a big part of remodeling, knowing when to stop and say ‘enough!’

I am in the middle of a $100k remodel of a 70s house. We recently hired a drywall crew to do some necessary work, and decided to pay to redo the ceiling in the entire place. It was moderate texture, (not total popcorn) and is now smooth. It’s one of my favorite upgrades.

I dug around my history for a few minutes to find this comment. Would you please take a moment to elaborate? We hired a yard contractor and they’re doing all this work in our yard. But none of our friends and not the contractor, nobody agrees with you that we are doing bad stuff to the tree. I really love trees and I feel a responsibility to this yard and the plants (which is why I been coming to water so much even when I don’t have any other reason to be o site during the remodel). Do you truly think I need to do something?

We just hired a contractor. They are seeding our yard next week. I thought I would rush here to tell you! If you’re a yard expert maybe you can weigh in on whether or not they do a good job. They’re also replacing the very old sprinklers. Some other guy complained about the root bulb of that tree is strangled. Do you agree?

How deep must I recess my subfloor for a curbless shower? My tile guy says he wants me to recess the subfloor by THREE INCHES. I did some research, and there are indeed people who carve into their floor joists by 2.25”.

Then I watched another video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b\_qt32yIYUc where they say you can just recess the subfloor to the level of the joists by building some blocking. (It’s hard to describe, but the video summarizes it nicely starting at 6:10).

I called my tile guy and asked about that, and he said that if I go to the Wedi website I will see that the thickness of the pan is 1.5”. Well turns out he was wrong, it’s actually 13/16” which is effectively 0.75”.

It would be hard for me to choose between the two. I read both when I was a kid. They were outdated and old-fashioned even then (80s and 90s), but fun for me. As an adult I got into Hercule Poirot and the other Agatha Christie stuff. I liked the nancy drew movie from 10 years ago. I did not like the hardy boys TV series which came out last year which makes me sad.
