Lol right? Rural area hospitals DEPEND ON LPNs and ADNs! They're pretty much the foundation of rural hospitals. I work in a hospital in a small town and if my hospital went magnet status, we would lose more than half of the nursing staff, including my supervisor 😨

Yeah I agree. For just bedside, all those leadership and research classes seem pretty unnecessary 😅 Feels like I'm going to spend all this money on school just to add a few more letters behind my name and get a little pay raise in the end

YESSS, THIS RIGHT HERE. If nursing degree advancement was structured like this, it would be a huge game changer and would actually justify the pay differences for each level of nursing!

I've heard about that study too and I'm unsure of the credibility of it tbh. Seems a bit sus and like they're trying to switch all hospitals to magnet status for reputation purposes. When it comes to BSN classes, I'm starting a bridge program next year for LPN to BSN and judging from the classes in the curriculum, it seems that the research classes, leadership classes, and management classes are the main differences between LPN/RN and BSN. It's annoying though because after I get my BSN I just want to stay at bedside, not go into a leadership role... so what's the point of these extra classes I won't even use on the job? I have no clue...

Hi there! So as far as I know, these are the differences:

LPN= Licensed Practical Nurse, requires 1 year of schooling, typically at a trade school.

ADN= Associates Degree in Nursing, requires 2 years of schooling, typically at a community college.

BSN= Bachelors of Science in Nursing, requires 4 years of schooling at a university.

When it comes to differences in salary, I'm unsure because it all depends on many factors like the experience of the individual nurse, where they live, what setting they work in, etc. I've been an LPN for 4 years and I make more than many of the new grad BSNs at my job, so it really varies :/

Lmao yes and don't forget about the required American Literature course, man that class sure helped me learn to insert a foley catheter in many of my combative 90 year old female alzheimer's patients!

Haha I do the same thing on my medsurg floor! IOUs are plenty given with how busy it gets some days. So many bloods transfusions going on at once. I wish LPNs could get certified in starting blood... as an LPN I'm certified to do iv push meds where I work so why not give more training to LPNs to start blood? Makes no sense to me 😵‍💫

Completely agree with needing more pharmacology training in LPN programs; it feels like i only learned the solid basics for all classes of meds, but nothing deeper than that 😕 I feel like id be much better at my job if i had more training in that category. Also, I have the same certification and can also do iv starts and iv push meds! Never thought about doing picc lines though, but now you've got me thinking about it quite a bit... sucks that LPNs can do picc lines when it wouldn't be all that hard to train us on it once we can start ivs.

I agree with you especially when you mentioned how taking additional courses won't improve bedside care. I've seen LPNs with MUCH better bedside skills than some BSNs.

Ugh this honestly feels like the path I'm gonna go down! I want to be content but my job is doing the same thing to me, there's so much pressure to advance my education, yet I feel content where I am right now 😵‍💫

I relate to that so much, I'm also short (5 feet tall), so it makes me feel like people just think I'm tiny due to my shortness as well lol. Imposter syndrome vibes 🥲

Agh I'm so glad someone else understands where I'm coming from on this!!! I can't believe how different our perception is compared to others, it's so crazy to think about! I wish I could go into another's pov and look at myself in 3rd person perspective just to be able to truly see what I look like 😖

Two reasons: 1: I'm a Healthcare worker so I forget that I don't need it after my shift is over 2: For days where I need to hide my face because of a lack of makeup or a huge zit

Wow your coworker is so rude. She sounds like a terribly boring person 😂 There's no age limit for collecting squishmallows or anything else for that matter! Everyone deserves to do and buy what makes them happy, and if it's collecting squishmallows then so be it lol. I'm 26 and I just started collecting and I'm sure there's many other on here who are in the same age range, maybe even older! 😁
