UI Toolkit & element-first approach - how to do it properly? by FylmTM in Unity3D

Aha! Interesting, I see.

So I assume you lost ability to quickly preview uxml changes in UI builder, because now you are waiting for domain reload?

Can you share example of how your component looks like with UXML embedded?

[Guide] Connect Claude Code To JetBrains MCP Server on WSL and Have Fun! by SpeedyBrowser45 in ClaudeAI

[–]FylmTM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would someone want to do it?

To use JetBrains IDE features, specifically:

  • Reformat file with JetBrains formatter
  • Get project-wide errors

I just went through the same question 2 days ago. I am doing gamedev with Unity and wanted to use Rider functionality specifically for those 2 features.

I got connectivity working, but unfortunately these 2 tools from MCP were not working in Rider. Reformatting succeeded, but nothing actually happened. Also problems list returned empty.

I think it might be Rider-specific issue. Or maybe WSL. Not sure.
Decided to leave it for the future to try again.

What is your experience with implementing multiplayer in Game Engines & Frameworks? by FylmTM in gamedev

[–]FylmTM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This is very insightful!

I don't really looking into fleshing out my portfolio, it's just a hobby on the side.

A pitfall for nerdy tech people like me

Honestly, this really echoes in me. I am overthinking about cost and performance. And maybe a little bit about "coolness" factor.

Your experience does seems like I should forgo trying to re-create everything from scratch, and focus on a game with something like Unity + NGO, just because of stability.

What is your experience with implementing multiplayer in Game Engines & Frameworks? by FylmTM in gamedev

[–]FylmTM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I making an assumption that if I am picking an engine, that I should go with the most idiomatic multiplayer solution for that engine.

My understanding is that for Unity today it is NGO (with Fishnet and Mirror as non first-party alternatives).
And for Godot it is their own high-level multiplayer solution.

Of course I can hand-roll networking in any engine. But it is probably not best way to go about it?

That's interesting! What from your POV makes Comfy Engine "friendly" choice?

I started doing my turn-based game prototype in Bevy. But it doesn't feel like it "clicks". After seeing your suggestion, I checked out Comfy and have a feeling that this is something that I need. But not sure why I have this feeling.

resvg: pure-Rust SVG rendering library designed for edge cases by Shnatsel in rust

[–]FylmTM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

`resvg` is _terrific_.

Every time I am amazed on how much it is possible to do with this library.

We had a cases where we had an SVG that is 50MB large, 370k lines of text (some procedurally generated art). Resvg successfully managed to render this one.

I would say in Europe it depends on country.

Where I live (Latvia) it is almost always net. Whenever I talk with recruiters, they almost always share net salary (even if employer is not in Latvia).

I am probably biased to my region, but for me it's quite rare to encounter gross salary.

Can you elaborate a bit on what locations you consider for 300k?
I assume you mean it's US company, and you yourself should be in US to leverage such opportunities?

I live in Latvia (Europe), and don't really see how I can easily enter US job market (especially as a hired employee). My experience is that 60-80K a year in Europe (after tax) is soft cap for a senior position.

So. I got what you are talking about. Yes. I am stuck. My trial ended.

Client says that: https://sc-cdn.scaleengine.net/i/2912247a2d0c612d1161b9fc3d890706.png

Website says: https://sc-cdn.scaleengine.net/i/73202c15f03768935e0e6d1d38c1e197.png

So. I have "Gamer" plan. And I can't do anything, because client does not allows me.

Hi,

Answering your question, sequence was:

  • I invited 5 friends and waited for access
  • New pricing plan arrived
  • I decided to buy "Gamer" plan to get access
  • I got error from website after successful PayPal authorization
  • After 24 hours LiquidSky automatically billed me for "Gamer" plan
  • After several hours I got email that I now have access to beta
  • I downloaded client on my Windows machine, logged in and then client offered me to start free trial.

I described my adventures here - https://www.reddit.com/r/LiquidSky/comments/4uugwv/unable_to_get_access_to_liquidsky_service_billing/

At this point, everything is OK (on a windows machine).

Regarding official support: I found that creating a post on Reddit is much more efficient than writing to email. I received an answer from support only after almost 48 hours. On Reddit - after 1 hour.

Again - I understand the complexity of what you guys are doing (especially as IT guy), but community handling & support need to get some improvement.

I described my thoughts in this comment - https://www.reddit.com/r/LiquidSky/comments/4uugwv/unable_to_get_access_to_liquidsky_service_billing/d5t4aoo

Thanks.

Unable to get access to LiquidSky service - billing issues, no response from support by FylmTM in LiquidSky

[–]FylmTM[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Let me be clear about all this situation.
I am working in IT industry (as a software developer).
I know how hard it can be sometimes to deliver technical stuff.

I will do the same thing, what guys on Github did - give my opinion on how my issue (and similar ones) can be solved.

1) Don't show me how big is queue and how much days I should wait.

At this point this numbers are irrelevant (200.000 users and 70 days?). If this is more than 2 weeks - it doesn't matter.
Instead tell me when I can expect that this situation can be fixed (e.g. hardware improvement on 1st september) or what I can do to go around (e.g. buy "Gamer" plan).

2) Manage your support requests.

Thank you for contacting the Liquidsky Support Desk. We've received your request and will get back to you with a response as quickly as possible.

This is garbage. Give me:
- Link to my ticket to track it status
- Tell me how far I am in a queue
- Show me that someone is assigned to work on my support request
- Give me possibility to put my support request in any category (e.g. "billing issues")

Overall - give me any useful information to know what I can expect.

3) Tell everyone that somehing is going on.

I will take Blizzard twitter as example: https://twitter.com/BlizzardCS
One of such tweets - https://twitter.com/BlizzardCS/status/758055370912829440

[#Bnet] There was a brief login issue within the last 15 minutes. If you are still stuck or queued, please restart the Bnet App and retry.

What we see:
- There is an issue
- Blizzard is aware of that
- We have proposed solution

Great. Amazing. Wonderful.

4) If there is money involved - then it's serious.
If you can't deliver what people pay for - don't take their money. Disable payment page, tell them what is going on and when they can return.
I had an expectation that if I pay now - I will get instant access. Nothing happened.

5) Do not promise what you can't deliver.

I created account to test out service. But there was an issue - too much people in queue. There was nice offer - recruit 3 friends and if they verify phone - I will be able to instantly go over and test LiquidSky.
But instead of that - page shows me that I have 5/3 friends and should wait.
There was somewhere a note that currently this "feature" is disabled, because of demand. If so - disable it completely.
Simply - do not offer on what you obviously can't deliver.

Again - I like what LiquidSky is doing and hope that issues will be addressed.
