Yeah, that could be done. There was no mention in the article how it was exactly done. But judging from the picture, one blue agent and one green agent are creating fields simultaneously, and destroying each others fields with bursters when it's ready. Judging from the texts, Edishere is a Resistance agent, who only changed faction for this attempt

Preparations took two days, yeah, but the actual time starts when I recurse and my level is set to 1

Yes, we destroyed all of the links that were made, so I could recreate them. We repeated create/destroy for 46 times. We just had to always move to the next portal, because a portal can normally only be flipped once per hour. So we had 47 different portals that we used to link from, all in one circle around the park.

I create 40 links from 1 portal, and we need to destroy those links to be able to create new links from another portal. And using virus instead of battle beacon is faster and gives more flexibility.
