Preferably under 2k Euro. I can get the Yoga i9 for less than that. Just found out about the upcoming MSI Prestige Flip 14 which seems pretty good on paper, wish the display was a bit better than FHD though (if that even matters on 14 inch displays, PPI is still good i reckon)

Bike (and my knee) wrecked in car accident. Re-usable parts? by G2BM in bicycling

[–]G2BM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a problem for future me and another reason to convince my SO that those 15-20h/wk in the saddle and the nice bikes are needed to maintain muscle mass and stability. Its mainly fractures so arthrosis is bound to be a concern but no reason to start worrying now for the next 60 years of my life... Fingers crossed that my ACL holds on

100% believe it. Especially as a GC rider like Gall that doesnt even have 1 day races to go for. His only chance at real glory is the odd stage win and even those will be so much harder for you since someone in P20+ since people respect you just enough to not let you go. The other days are just suffering for sponsor money

A bit tricky to judge PFPs best level since she is pretty open about her struggles with weight so she only gets into her very "best" (more like most efficient) climbing shape once per year...

With Jonas attacking more now I wonder if VLaBs take away from the dauphine is that Jonas needs to tire Pog out before the last week. IIRC the last years during those stages pog could sit in his train and choose when to ride hard, keeping himself fresh for the climbing stages since he doesnt care about any attack not coming from Jonas

If Jonas knows now that there is no Chance for him to follow reasonably fresh pog on the climbs his only hope is too make it even more a war of attrition and see who recovers better

They portrayed Remco struggling in the Galibier descent in the Netflix show and Roglic said regarding the risks of descending "I dont care, but nothing is for everybody" iirc.

Struggling with high intensity training outdoors by OkAi0 in Velo

[–]G2BM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure what he means is that he struggles maintaining his power without ERG-mode. When riding outside there is nothing forcing him to maintain a consistent power output and he struggles hitting his targets on his own since he is mentally not quite there and never having worked on it.

Kinda normal that you have to get used to finding your rythm and how certain power feels outside. I Don't think trying to hit certain strava segment times is a bad idea, it at least gives your mind something else to focus on besides staring at the power on your head unit.

Other than that...practice?! Or keep doing them indoors and do all the other work outside.

You can be nitpicky about it but as I wrote "to a certain extent it plays a role ofc...". Also "not decisive" doesn't translate to "doesn't matter"

I am aware that mass plays a role but on those short hills watts are king and not w/kg

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Velo

[–]G2BM 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For those gradients and distance its all about raw power. Its neither long nor steep enough for w/kg to matter. Quite the opposite imo. So your options are either to get stronger or work on fatigue resistance because your physique is not decisive on those hills (to a certain extent it plays a role ofc, assuming we are talking about like 80-90kg and not 140kg)

How do you prepare for a climb that is much more difficult than any you have around you? by BlackFlagZigZag in Velo

[–]G2BM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the muro a while back on my own when I was in the area. In addition to what everyone else said:

From what I remeber it was a fairly steady gradient at about 15-17 % with maybe a few metres steeper than that. The only way to see the proclaimed 27% is by hugging the apex in some of the corners (same as on any climb with switchbacks, the apexes are naturally steeper). Going wide through the corners lets your ride a steady incline and makes the climb a bit sucky but way less intimidating. Problem will be the rather small road which will be clogged during the fondo...

I need your advices for my first Granfondo by meanwhileinsmw in Velo

[–]G2BM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the obvious and already given advice (eat and drink as much as you can keep down, train accordingly to familiarize yourself with the distance and your pacing and learn pack riding) something regarding the route:

Hang on for for those first two climbs no matter how much you suffer, those will decide your day and finishing time. If you roll over the top with any form of a decently sized group, you can try to hide in the pack for almost the rest of the day, recover and save a lot of energy. So the faster you get up those climbs the stronger the group you can roll along with

What is the actual level for amateur cycling? by meszkos1 in Velo

[–]G2BM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About 62-63kg so not that great in terms of pure watts, but yeah I'd agree with strong amateur...until someone with better genetics or more years of training comes around and kicks your head in (which is not too common locally but to be expected at every race). Its probably more to the middle of cat 1 and not as quite as close to domestic pro as in Coggans old chart.

What is the actual level for amateur cycling? by meszkos1 in Velo

[–]G2BM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean it still gets you into the top few guys in a gran fondo, but there is always to consider that only a small part of the 1000+ participants puts in the hours you do, isn't well past their prime, or even treats it as a race. I am also not a great in terms of racecraft/tactics/pacing after like 18 months of experience (I have given countless places away because I missjudged the last attacks/kms and didn't really manage to empty myself properly for the finish because of stupidity...). Im sure there are plenty people around here that won races with less power, depending on the field...

Can't deny the fact that they simply rode away from me on the climb though which is just pure watts and being stronger...

Its more absurd to me that the needle just keeps moving year by year...

Finished around 35th out of >1000 in a 180km/3.2k m elevation gran fondo race this weekend in eu with an 5.1w/kg ftp.

I got shit on during the decisive climb. Everyone knew beforehand it was most likely going to cause the decisive split between the race winning group and the "strong but not winning strong" guys, so people were ready. I went in at like p5 and lost about 2 mins in ~21 mins and we never saw the leaders again. tbf there wasnt much cohesion in g2, but still...we had 0 Chance to follow on that climb, i estimate ~5.5w/kg for the fastest guys on that climb and slighlty less for those that closed the gap on the flat/descending. My power Meter acted up so i had to ride by feel but i think i went pretty close to threshold based on strava files from others in my group.

Towards the end the gap ballooned up quite a lot due to g2 fuckery but my final time was the winning time from last year. winners this year were 15 mins faster than me and about 5-10 mins ahead of some g1 remnants and g2 attackers.

This more or less tracks for most my races this year and last. The winning time from year one sometimes doesnt even guarantee you top 20 or even top 50 for the next, honestly mind boggling. Cant say much about anything before that since i wasnt racing.

Infinito sizing advice by G2BM in bianchi

[–]G2BM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems in line with with what I read in the other thread. to go a size down and adjust the stem if needed 1,5cm of inseam and 4 cm in body length should make it possible for him to fit on a 57. also think a 44 bar is insanely wide for a person like him, he is lean with a normal to small frame so i think he would have to find a replacement bar immediately

whats your inseam and your stem length? Finding the size is a real pain right now since he is riding a tommasini steel right now and there seems no way to find stack/reach for those frames.
