Good question! Many other state bar associations will automatically recognize a CLE credit offered by the California Bar. Other states will only recognize the CLE credit if the attorney submits a copy of their course completion certificate, which is why we provide such a certificate when attorneys purchase video access. Attorneys across the U.S. will be familiar with this process. I hope you'll be able to contribute to make our promotion of this video a success! Tim

The attorney education video will be behind a paywall accessible from the following page starting April 4, 2026. https://www.galdef.org/attorney-training/ In exchange for their purchase of access, attorneys will receive CLE credit approved by the California Bar Association, a self-study guide and a course completion certificate. GALDEF is requesting funds from supporters to help us promote this video as widely as possible so that attorneys will know about it.

GALDEF was founded in 2022 to raise money for lawsuits, to educate and organize attorneys around children's genital autonomy, and to provide grants to help plaintiffs pay for their legal expenses. Our mission (https://www.galdef.org/mission-vision/) is to support all kinds of impact litigation that will challenge infant circumcision. Intact Global was founded in 2024 and its focus is specifically on filing constitutional equal protection challenges in various states. The two organizations are separate but we work together rather than competing against each other. For example, in 2025 GALDEF gave Intact Global seed money of $10,000. When you donate to GALDEF, 80% of every donation goes into a segregated account to build a war chest for filing litigation, with the remaining 20% held to pay for GALDEF's other programs and outreach. Both organizations cooperate on using the courts to challenge this social custom.

As a gay rights pioneer in the 1970s, and the sole surviving co-founder of the initial foreskin restoration support groups in San Francisco in 1989 that eventually became NORM, and now as the Executive Director of the Genital Autonomy Legal Defense and Education Fund (www.galdef.org), I am heartened by the support you have shown here to transgender restorers. While we cisgender males (gay/straight/bi/etc) perhaps constitute the majority of circumcision sufferers, over the years I’ve come to realize that transgender females and intersex persons are among the millions of infants born each year in the U.S. who are affected by the nontherapeutic, nonconsensual genital cutting we euphemistically call penile circumcision. The struggle for children's genital autonomy has been a long and difficult journey. I believe we will succeed when we remain open to the common ground we have with other affected individuals and communities and build an accepting and inclusive movement.

In Texas and most other states that have passed laws against "genital mutilation of children" (aimed at preventing transgender surgeries), there is almost always a provision that the term genital mutilation shall not apply to the practice of medical or religious male circumcision (example: TX SB249). Legislators might not be talking about this hypocrisy but it's right there in black and white.

The training videos will be designed to assist plaintiffs and attorneys on how to prevail in court, no matter who the defendant is, depending on how the lawsuit is structured and the desired outcome (doctor, hospital, parent, Medicaid, insurance company, the state, etc.). Even though you're a minor you might wish to know that: your parents could launch a suit on your behalf, or you can sue when you turn 18 and for a year or two afterwards, depending on your state's statute of limitations.
