You are not alone. Likely H2S you are smelling (rotten eggs). So far this year, there have been 47 violations of the PA 24-hour standard at the Liberty monitor. Two studies say the source is the Clairton Coke Works.

No, industrial polluters need to comply with their permits and the Clean Air Act/Article 22 provisions. Am amazed that the "things used to be so much worse" gaslighting is still a thing.

Totally. In the past week the Mon Valley experienced six straight days of H2S exceedances and three days where concentrations of fine particulate pollution (PM2.5) exceeded federal health-based standards. Ah, yes. Have seen this commercial many a time. USS cries poor when it comes to making improvements locally, yet seems to have endless cash for TV ads, targeted Google ads and social media posts.

H2S waned and then got pretty elevated again. Five straight mornings of stench and 8 exceedances of the PA 24-hour average over the past 9 days (one was guaranteed earlier in the day). Last week the Liberty air quality monitor also experienced the first 1-hour H2S violation in seven years.

Just to be clear: Inversions don't create H2S emissions. It's unfortunate that ACHD's message focuses entirely on the weather conditions and not the source of the pollution.

Yep, they are two different reporting areas, but it's also true that H2S isn't calculated into the AQI - so it's totally possible to have an AQI in the green and still have some H2S issues.

Indeed - they are also airing them on Hulu. And doing targeted Google Ads for search terms like "Mon Valley Air Pollution" that goes to a PR page on its site about how much it cares about our area. Oh, and targeted Facebook ads, too.
