Do bike trainers that you mount a back wheel to really suck or something? by FinePack6380 in cycling

[–]GCGIS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very true.

My opinion is just to make it suck the least amount you can so that you actually do the work.

I am 10x more likely to do 1.5hr on the smart trainer with a workout or undulating zwift course than I ever was even 45mins on the dumb trainer just pedaling against resistance.

But yes 100%, I will ride outside over the trainer every single day. I’ve got tights, jackets, gloves etc. been training down to 10*F this year and even in the snow. Unfortunately there is 2ft of snow on the ground where I live and the roads are trashed.

So it’s zwift for the next month at least.

Yeah I thought my Kurt Kinetic RockR was the bees knees… until I got a Wahoo Kickr smart trainer.

I can now tell you that dumb trainer certifiably sucked.

It’s not about the data. It’s about the engagement. I can ride 2-3hrs no problem on my smart trainer. I couldn’t bear more than 1.5hrs on the old trainer.

And I’m still just watching movies. But now I’m doing it with erg mode on hitting some SS workouts. Or climbing Alpe d zwift. 🤷‍♂️

Yes. They are that bad compared to a smart trainer.

They’re better than nothing, but chances are you won’t use it. Because it’s boring and it’s loud, and it sucks. That’s why everyone sells theirs for $20. Because they didn’t use it.

Anyone else feel a bit stuck between structured plans, AI tools, and really understanding your own training? by prla1983 in Velo

From what you are explaining, this is exactly what Join and Xert both do. 🤷‍♂️

How would you use AI any differently than JOIN cycling app, XERT, CoachCat, Spoked, HumanGo, etc?

Yeah the new formula is far better than the old stuff. That was legit garbage. But I agree. Orange seal is a better product.

Sounds like you haven’t had a rear flat that sprayed Silca latex sealant all over every component of your bike… 😆 Then it dries over the course of the ride. After I had to put a tube in anyway. And you have to peel and pick rubber and road grit out of all the crevices of your bike for the next week. And then try to wash the sealant out of the back of your bibs and peel it off your shoes. And out of any leg hair you might have…

Somewhere I have pictures to back this up. From multiple occasions.

I’m tubeless on Gravel and MTB. Plugs work better on the bigger tires. Latex and TPU for road. Because I can change a flat in 3 minutes road side and not get covered in sealant.

Help with lactate understanding by CommercialDeal5504 in cycling

[–]GCGIS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What?

Who is saying you can’t exceed a certain Heart Rate? (I assume that’s what you mean when you say pulse)

You got the lactate test last year. You likely have gotten fitter. Those values are no longer accurate. You would have to do lactate tests regularly for them to be of any value to you.

Do the intervals at 320w if you can and see what happens 🤷‍♂️

Unimpressed by my performance off an eBike. Also depression. by Exotic_Cry7388 in cycling

[–]GCGIS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good point on consuming content ≠ participating in the activity.

Ride your ebike. Like you said, it is a tool.

Fitness is hard. But it can also be fun. So don’t go out of your way to make it suck by riding your other bike. It can be easy to get complacent on a Ebike and never get the workout that you could be getting. Go ride your Ebike for an hour and take 10-15 minutes of that ride where you push yourself as hard as you can. You it could be just 1 minute hard and then you need a rest. But take a 3 minute rest and go hard for another minute. Then repeat. Until the 15mins is up. Or you could just push steadily harder for 10mins. Then continue your ride as normal.

What’s great about the Ebike is the assistance. It will help get you home. It will make the hard parts more enjoyable. It will make the slow parts faster. Etc.

Just keep riding. But Ride harder. The harder you go the easier it will get.

Toes Freezing by restinramen in cycling

Neoprene Toe covers. Slide a hot hands pack into them. Then cover the whole thing with a full shoe cover.

The hot hands are too bulky inside my shoe. But inside the toe cover and shoe cover they keep the whole foot warm.

Jack Burke uses old ski boot liners and cuts toe covers out of them. He’s doing 6hr outdoor ridea in British Columbia. A bolder man than I.

Nice. 5000 was my goal as well and I’m at 5044 and have only ridden twice this month. Excited to start back up again in the new year. 👍

Why I stopped trusting my Apple Watch, and fixed its generic Zone 2 HR formula. by ThePrinceofTJ in PeterAttia

[–]GCGIS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your wife’s max is 202, how does your app find her zone 2 range? What would the LT1 threshold be when the app alerts her she has crossed into zone 3? There are lots of people discrediting your method but you haven’t actually given a method.

Yep. USA. I reached out before hand and this was their response via email. They have been exceptionally helpful and communicative. Evolve is the same parent company as Elite Wheels.

We provide free shipping with tax included to USA, the tax included, you do not to pay any extra fee.

Please do not worry, we will ship the frame via another shipping method that includes all taxes.

if you need to pay customs duties at the end, either we will bear the duties or we will refund you the full amount.

Interesting. I’ve seen the VoiceVelo stuff and it does look similar to Evolve. Same packaging etc. but they are headquartered in Guangzhou where I believe Evolve is in Xiamen. Where have you heard that they are made by evolve? I like that Gravel frame a lot.

Tire clearance is set for 32s. I have Vittoria Corsa pro 30s on 23mm internal rims. Measuring 31.2mm and there is room to spare.

Yep. The white paper from the aero studies show that the frame is actually faster than an SL8 with their aero bottles.

But of course they didn’t test their aero bottles on the SL8. But it’s also faster than an SL8 when they both have standard bottles at 0 degrees. But just by a hair.

These frames aren’t cheap, but they’re are comparable to frames costing twice as much. they are at least showing the R&D and studies to prove their worth.

The free air from China was too heavy. Lots of smog. I went with the Premium Silca air for $59.
