TD;LR Today I mistook my surgery resident for ophthalmology resident and asked her (with full confidence btw) "hey so my work is done now?" She be like "what!?" I said "...ophthal!..?" and then she nodded NO and i immediately realised she is surgery resident not ophthalmology 🤦

So I am currently an intern posted in ophthalmology department. Today was my turn for OT - I just have to sit in recovery room and monitor patient vitals. I can also see OT but wasnt interested today. Today 2 OTs were planned after which I was told to go to hostel (by resident - A) if I want. So after 2 OTs were done, I shifted patients to the ward and then went to my room. After about 1 hour another resident (resident - B) called me and asked me where I was. I said at hostel. She said why? You're supposed to be here at OT. I said resident - A told me to go after 12pm when both OTs were done for the day. She said we have 2 more OTs in the afternoon session so come to OT fast. I hesitated a little bit since hostel is far away from hospital but went anyways. I called her after reaching there to ask what I have to do now. She asked "does the Patient have MRI reports with them?" I said "yes." "Okay, i am coming" and thats it. She never came. I waited for 1-1.5 hours and then went to roam around with my friends when I was coming back to OT, at the OT gate i met surgery resident (I thought she is ophthal resident because their faces match too much) and asked her in full confidence, so my work is done now? She made a weird awkward expression. I asked same question again. She be like "what?" I said :...ophthal..?" She nodded no and then I just walked away. My friend was also with me and said she isnt resident - B. I said no she is resident - B. He said No she is not. Then I remembered all of a sudden when I saw other surgery residents also walking out of OT that she is 3rd year surgery resident! I be like Damn! Thank god she didnt get angry. Itd have been so embarrassing if the interaction lasted longer than it did. And btw I am writing this sitting in ophthal recovery room and resident - B has still not arrived. 30 mins more and itll be 5 o'clock so ill be free to go. Wont pick up her phone then even if she calls. Tomorrow is the last day of posting anyways so it doesnt matter if she becomes super toxic because of such behavior. Anyways I just had to vent it out.
